This is terrific, and I would imagine a higher number than would have been expected in such a short time. By the volume and content of the posts these last few weeks, it is clear that Chip's initiative to get this going has served many people well.

And just think. Without the moderators at least 180 of those registrants would be aliases for FACT WATCHER

You made a good point! There must be a lot of registers as an observer instead of being an active member. This makes me even more curious. Are those registers waiting for an appropriated time to say something, or they think this forum is a waste of time?
Another possibility is there is an error with registry status 198.
I will check all the names on this forum when I have time. I think it is probably half of that 198.

    This is so awesome!

Thanks to Chip and the wonderful others, we no longer have to put up with Factwatcher's rubbish.

Actually, we monitor registrations pretty carefully for obvious reasons. The number is, in fact, accurate. There are that many registrations, each with a unique email address. But as is the case with almost any discussion forum, there are a lot of folks that prefer to stay on the sidelines and only post an occasional message here or there.

Thanks, Paul [IMG] And I also have to extend thanks for initial and ongoing assistance to the moderator/admins (Russ, Tom H., Tom N., Bill G., John), all of whom have provided input, research, oversight, commentary, and energy to make this happen, support the users that have problems, etc. There's no way I could keep track of everything myself!

I know some people gonna hate for this suggestion, but with that number of attendees you probably can get some banners on your site. You folks are doing a great job, so you should get something tangible in return (not only our Thanks!)

Hey, maybe we could get a few degree mills to advertise! We'll take their money and poke fun at them at the same time.

Now *there* is a fun proposition! Maybe we can get MIGS, Sheila's term paper service, and Capitol University for starters [IMG]

What is the distinction between Member and New Member? When does a New Member become a member? Is it based on number of posts or a fixed period of time?

When Pearson, the $10 billion corporation that bought the rights to Bears' Guide, decided to sell advertising in the book,I was not happy. I demanded (a) that all ads appear in a single section at the back, (b) clearly identified as paid advertising, and (c) that I'd have full authority to reject any advertiser. There was grudging partial agreement (one reason I'm no longer involved with Pearson).

But I think that a section called "Ads from Degree Mills and Nonwonderful Schools" would probably have done very well. After all, many of the clients of the bad guys know just what they're doing, and so the bad guys just want to get their name and address in public. They'd probably love to buy banners here (heaven forbid).

A reminder that after 60 Minutes did its excellent diploma mill segment years ago, exposing California Pacifica University, they got over 800 phone calls that very evening from people wanting the phone number and address of the just-exposed school.

It's automatic and occurs after a certain number of posts. I believe it's currently set to either 10 or 15. The board default for new members is "Junior Member", which I didn't like... hence the change to "New Member"

I'm just glad "Member" didn't become "Old Member"! My hairline and ego couldn't stand that.

Perhaps. Or you can be Dat-member and what's his name can be Dis-member.

And if you quit and rejoin, of course, you'd be a re-member.
