That's interesting -- what do they do for you, and what do you keep in house?

Faculty control course content. Basically we give the syllabus to Cap Ed, they set up the electronic classroom, platform, etc. Cap Ed does all of the marketing and admissions work as well.

I don't know about the financial arrangements. I haven't taught on the platform yet, possibly in Spring. My colleagues like the platform - easier to use than Blackboard, which is what my university uses.

    I don't know. :)

Our university wanted to get into the adult education market; but felt it didn't have the expertise to do so. One of the senior managers with Cap Ed is formerly with Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU), and IWU has done an outstanding job with online education.

Over the next several years; the projected number of high school grads in NE Indiana is projected to remain flat, so my university is looking at other ways to increase enrollment.

I worked for this Cardean (and the company that operated it, UNext) and Ellis College of NYIT for a while. Makes me think that my Cardean University sweatshirt is something of a collector's item by now!

This place has been a disaster for years, and frankly, I'm shocked they are still afloat. Michael Millken singlehandedly kept them open for a long time, and then NYIT and federal financial aid paid the bills. I'm wondering how they manage to keep the doors open now. They were convinced that they would be the next Univ of Phoenix when I was there in 2003/04.

I didn't know that Michael Milken, one of my personal heroes, did that. He has contributed a huge amount to good causes, particularly prostate cancer research and treatment -- and, in various ways, to education. I believe he was one of the founders of a school formerly known as ISIM University, the predecessor of Aspen University.

    John Hancock?

    Really?

I don't see what's wrong with Ellis. But, if they lost their accreditation, I guess that explains it.

Why don't they let some donor donate money and "buy" a school name of their choice?

This school has had a unusual recent history to say the least. As you may know I went to EC of NYIT and elected to go with NYIT when they split (thank God!). The folks that elected to stay with the Ellis people were not very happy they did. The few people EU people on my NYIT forum that stayed with Ellis said the tuition and admin problems were as bad as ever. They hated student services and the admin folks, as did I when they were in my corner.

Ellis for some strange reason can no longer utilize federal student aid or military tuition assistance (last I knew). This "new" restriction hurt a lot of the students, and so the Ellis Tuition Grant was born. This new plan basically lowered the tuition to tolerable levels, thus new students kept coming in hence they survived.

Losing their regional accreditation was the last straw for many and they clearly showed it by leaving the school all together. If they spent more time fixing the administration issues and less on trying to hide their tattered past, Ellis (or whatever they call themselves now) may survive.

The sad thing is I really like the Ellis teaching model and instructors.

Today John Hancock U, tomorrow who knows! Actually, it might be a good idea to rename the school it's ORIGINAL name! How confusing would that be, hiding in your own past, so many possibilities! :)
