Perhaps others have found the answer also.

    1Timothy 3:13

For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree.

Perhaps people are being a bit too literal.

Proper exegesis suggests that only deacons may "purchase" the degree. All others must earn it. ;)

Whalel blubber is a lot like whale blubber for the keyboard challenged. Too late to edit.

Why so many religious degree mills?

Maybe the coversation with self goes something like this:

    1. I'm just as smart as Doctor So-and-So at that other church...
    2. Having the title "Doctor" would sure add to my credibility...
    3. Here, let me find out what it would take to get a doctorate in religion...
    4. WHAT!!! HOW MANY YEARS?!! HOW MUCH?!!
    5. Hey! According to this spam e-mail, I can get a doctorate from a "presigious non-accredited university" without taking any classes or doing any work. The only academic requirement? The check clears.
    6. Who will check up on this degree? Nobody.
    7. SOLD!!!!

I figure the Mill owners feel when they possibly get prosecuted they only sold diplomas for religion and it doesn't seem to attract as much attention as Mill degrees in education or something.

By the way, the misspelling "presigious" was intentional.

This organization offers a doctorate in business administration in non-profit management.

I guess a good dissertation title would be -
