Racists are the stupidest people on the face of the earth, and they can't help themselves but to further prove it at any opportunity.

I wonder how many racists are getting nasty surprises with their ancestry DNA tests.

My favorite thing to do is peruse those message boards. The number of people who were told they have "Native American" ancestry is astronomical. The number of them absolutely butthurt when they find out they don't have NA DNA is comically astronomical to boot. I love it!

One lady lamented that she was mostly white European and did not have any NA DNA or African DNA.

What you find out on those sites, is twofold:
    1. Your parents and grandparents were lying sacks of shit.
    2. We're all mutts. So, not only were Nana and PopPop liars, they like to fuck a lot. And they had no problem with the "race" of the people they were in coitus with.

"Discovery" is simply the best part about these DNA tests. Mine were interesting only in the fact that it was one of the few things my Mom DIDN'T lie to me about.

I loved watching the show by Henry Louis Gates when he would do stars DNA. "Finding Your Roots". Couple of black people learned that they were complete and utterly descendants of free black people. They were sad. Anderson Cooper is descended from slave owners, as is the amazing documentarian Ken Burns. Chelsea Handlers grandfather was a Nazi. Lot's of interesting revelations.

White Nationalists are complete idiots, and I would love to see the look of shock on their face when they discover that they have African DNA. I'm giddy with excitement!

In Hawaii people of mixed ancestry/race are haffa. In Japan they are hapa. In China the term that is often used is hun-xue-er. These are not necessarily negative terms although can be used as such if that's your intention.

No big deal. Your great-grandkids only have 12.5% of your DNA, and even that depends on three women in a row telling the truth.

Indeed it is. 混血儿 Literal translation "mixed blood child." I took a Mandarin course in College but didn't learn this phrase there. Thank God for the Internet!

I've been a slacker on having my DNA done. I'd love to find something- anything- whatever - other than plain old hovel-dwelling British serf. One of my proudest things is that my sons have some Native Canadian blood and therefore so do all my grandkids - and two of them have considerably more than the others. Two grandkids have Italian and Irish in their ancestry as well. Good-looking lot, my grandkids. Smart, too! Must be the other 75% of their DNA - not my contribution.

And it's hereditary? Well, that explains a lot about me, I guess.

BTW - I don't really know if my folks were liars or not. I was adopted (found out when I was close to 50) and have no idea who my birth parents were.

Reading the newposts on this thread today and I'm chucking right now at a realization I'm having- this is probably the most feel good news story I've read in quite a long time :D :D :D :D

EDIT: I didn't even have to read the article Kizmet posted. The juxtaposition of her ironic use of the term "master race" and just looking at the pictures of those guys... wow :D I can barely even breathe right now I'm laughing so hard.

It's long been popular in some places for people to claim NA heritage. Not enough to matter but enough to spice the stew.

There have been times when people made claims about Native American ancestry because if they could show that they belonged to certain specific tribe(s) they could make claim to a share of the local casinos. This was the case in Connecticut with the Pequots who own/run the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos (I think it's the Pequots).

I mostly ran into that in the Army in the 1960s, before the casino scam. Seemed to be much a Southron thing.

There have been claims for other reasons, too. The Ramapo Mountain People of New Jersey sought recognition as a Native tribe for a long time. They have State recognition, but not Federal. One of their aims was to finally escape the derogatory label of "Jackson Whites."

I remember Tony Soprano mentioning "Jackson Whites" when he and his nephew Chris were in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, trying to escape a Russian sniper.

America has quite a few bi- or multiracial isolates: Melungeons, Redbones, Wesorts, Gullah/Geechee etc. ... Interesting people, with quite a history lesson in all of them.

I apologize. Gullah/Geechee people are descended from Africans. They can't be considered a bi-or multi-racial isolate. My error. Still a very interesting and culturally rich people.

Anecdotal, but every friend who's gotten one of those tests has found ancestry on continents they'd never have suspected. One friend of my daughter's, who identifies as African-American, found out she was only 3/8 from Africa and had large percentages of German, Asian and Native American. The father, who adopted said mixed race daughter, who looks caucasian with a capitol "c", found out he's part sub Saharan African!
