    Well, "similar agencies" is way to broad to comment on, but in the education field, there are (at least) four well-known NAHE's. The ones that come to mind:

    1) The National Association for Humanities Education, a professional organization of teachers in the humanities fields from elementary through college levels;

    2) The National Academy of Higher Education, a foreign credentials evaluation service;

    3) The National Association for Hispanic Education, an advocacy organization; and

    4) Native Americans for Home Education, a small advocacy organization for lay persons.

    NAHE is not a good source of information

    NAHE is discussed in a few places on DegreeInfo. Take a look here:

    http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9783&highlight=nahe

    The list of organizations recognized by NAHE consists largely (entirely?) of degree-granting enterprises whose product is illegal to use in Oregon, Illinois, and North Dakota, among other places. Naive acceptance of NAHE evaluations could land you in jail. It is not a good source of information.

    There is a description of accreditation in the United States on the Oregon ODA pages: take a look here.
