Tom, you may be on to something. If the mills did make their diplomas 8'X10', at least they'd be good for *something*.

My 1986 USNY diploma is 8.5x11 inches, black and yellow, with the University seal in gold color. That size is far better than that of UNISA diploma which is 14x10 inches (difficult to bring to an interview!).

I've heard people taking about the Excelsior diploma as "cheesy" and "not exactly professionally looking". Is there a kernel of thruth to it or is it just a matter of opinion?

    Thanks,

I don't know about the Excelsior diploma, but my 1996 USNY/Regents diploma looks pretty much like any other bachelor's diploma I've seen; not particularly ornate, but certainly not cheesy or unprofessional-looking.

My 1986 USNY diploma looks like that shown at http://www.geocities.com/BA_in_4_Weeks/

Of course, the diploma is in yellow with wordings in black and a gold University seal at the left hand corner. It looks more professional than my UK diploma.

Does the diploma design have been changed together with the name of the school?

A specimen of Regeants College diploma (USNY) is displayed here: http://www.edu.supanet.com/

It doesn't look like a bad diploma to me; the formatting's a little less traditional than in the USNY model, but it still looks like the real deal.

Thank you Peter. Compared to the old USNY diploma the one from Excelsior certainly looks pretty basic. It doesn't use calligraphy like that from USNY and the white background of the USNY diploma is more pleasing than the slightly yellow one of the Excelsior diploma. However, all in all, it doesn't look bad to me either. It's OK in my opinion; for the European taste anyway. For example, the design of German diplomas is generally far less imaginative than that of the US ones.
