As has already been said, chalk it up to experience, and look for a legitimate school to earn your degree.

    Useless degree

We just fo und out today that the degree (PhD) obtained after 3 years of hard work and financial difficulty is useless. Have spent hours on the internet trying to put the puzzle together. Talked to (via phone) the former Chancellor that was fired in 2006.

Based on the information that we got from the Dept of Education, degree cannot be used as a Doctorate ('graduated' in 2000). Impact upon employment will be life changing. Did contact attorney that is handling the class action lawsuit. There will be discussion on an additional lawsuit for those that graduated before the move to Wyoming.

We checked as much as possible on this school and were constantly reassured that they were in the process of getting accredidation by the State of Calif. back in 1999 when we were looking at enrolling.

There are literally thousands of grads just like us that were never informed of the problems and are now looking at having to make difficult decisions in order to continue our livelihood.

Back in 1999 - 2000, the tests were proctored. No answers were sent to us and everything was done via the U.S. mail. Nothing was done on the internet at that time. At least in our case. We did not get straight A's on the tests, but also didn't have to retake any of them since we did get a passing grade (B's & C's).

Luckily we have Masters' degrees from State colleges that are accredited. But, the loss of our PhD's will definitely impact our lives. It sort of feels like a part of us has died. Imagine being known as a PhD for over 10 years only to find out that you really aren't. Took the same number of classes with real textbooks (actually some are still being used by our State colleges now) as we would have had to take in another institution. So, for those wondering, back in the 90's, it appears that they were 'following' the rules of academia.

None of that matters now since the school (KWU) didn't do what they were telling all of us and the end result is many changed lives. Would love to find out where all of the money went.

Life goes on and so will we.

The Cheyenne Herald has some wonderful articles that describes where the money went to.

Most notably, over half of the revenue went to marketing and sales. This is way out of line compared to more wonderful schools.

Now, what you probably really meant was who is the perhaps deceitful people that made a profit. The primary owner and founder was Paul Saltman. He lives in the Los Angeles area. In the last few years they apparently sold shares to some investors. I'm guessing that perhaps that is part of the reason that they didn't just pull up roots and move the operation to a different state.

I'm sorry you were taken in by KWU but enrolling a school that is not RA or DETC accredited results in the risk that any degree earned from that school will be virtually useless.

There is a class action law suit underway against Kennedy-Western, Warren National, Paul Saltmann, et al.

You may wish to get in touch with the law firm of Rothgerber, Johnson and Lyon in Denver, to see if it not too late to become a party. (303) 623-9000.
www.rothgerber.com (This is a large and high-powered firm. One of the Partners in their Wyoming office is a former Governor of Wyoming.)

    Good luck.

Latest Update - Warren National class action suit

Haven't seen much on the lawsuit, but recently the Cheyenne Herald reported that the plaintiff attorneys issued a subpeona to the HLC in Chicago, requesting information related to WNU's accreditation application.

    Funny...

I just saw a resume of a high-powered consultant/CPA today and she had K-W PhD listed! I was very surprised. She did report a M.S. from a state university...but still.
