That is annoying/naueating. These mills are popping up like mold & mildew.

What is equally annoying is that the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod's higher educatation system, consisting of several colleges/Universities/seminaries throughout the United States are called Concordia (eg Concordia University - Irvin, Concordia University - Austin, Concordia Seminary).

Probably not much chance of them suing as the mill version is in the Virgin Islands. However, someone has the milled diploma and a HR person who is not too thorough simply sees Concordia and if he is Lutheran recognizes that name alone.

    Sighhh!

Indeed, North! And this is one of the tactics of degree mills (among 10,000 others), to choose a name which resembles a respectable institution.

Hey, remember Larry Flegle, the poor shlub that Steve Levicoff was able to rescue from his contract with the miserable Canyon College in Idaho.

Flegle is now a faculty member and major apologist for Concordia, and has been deluging me with offensive and defensive Email to the point where I installed a Flegle filter.

About the name: there is a deeper connection with the real one. This new Estonian (etc.) Concordia has close links with "Wisconsin International University" (run from a private home near Milwaukee), which is run by a former president of the real Concordia. I was advised to look at the circumstances of his leaving the real Concordia, but have not done so.

  5. Here's an interesting development -- I'm catching up on messages I missed while I was on the road and didn't have the Internet access I'd expected to have...

When I clicked on www.accredited-degrees.com02.com this morning (May 22 2001), I was immediately redirected to the Google web directory at http://directory.google.com/

Searching at http://www.google.com/ for "fake Australian degrees" as a phrase in quotes does not match any documents. Searching without the quotes returns a variety of pages -- and no ad for Concordia. Even searching for Concordia University and Concordia College turns up links to a variety of pages for apparently legitimate "Concordia" schools.

And a search for distance learning or distance education turns up ads for Kaplan, University Alliance, and a distance learning service provider -- no ads for degree consultants.

    Hmmm.

The redirect was originally to www.ciue.edu.ee which is not the same "school" as the bogus Concordia C&U operated by our old friend Kristiaan.
