Has anyone gotten more than 3 transfer credits towards any of Walden's doctorate programs?

The website says you can get up to 15 credits transferred from a master's degree, but I have yet to find anyone who got more than 3 credits.

Do you mean from a Master's degree that was also the prerequisite to enter the program, or a different/second one?

I have been researching their Doctor in IT degree. I don't believe a master's degree is required to enter their programs. I'm curious if anyone with a master's degree has gotten more than 3 transfer credits. I got 1 course from my MSCS transferred to their DIT which was really surprising.

    From their website
"This program is designed for students who have either an undergraduate or master’s degree in a technical field or a master’s degree in a nontechnical field combined with three or more years of relevant IT work experience."

"If you have completed a master’s degree in information systems, information technology, computer science, management information systems, computer information systems, and computer/software engineering within the past 10 years, you may also be eligible to transfer up to five courses that can save you time and tuition. By surprising I meant that I thought a master of computer science would get me the full 15 credits of transfer towards their Doctor of IT core courses but instead I only got 3 credits. Their core courses seem like undergrad courses to me.

Here are their core required courses for the Doctor of IT:
    Fundamentals of Information Systems
    Systems Analysis and Design
    Principles of Programming
    Operating System and Network Architecture
    Data Modeling and Database Design
    Enterprise Systems Architecture
    Fundamentals of Information Assurance

That does seem odd. Usually (North American) programs that will admit either BS or MS holders include the Master's degree part but waive all of it for incoming MS holders. If I understand you, you're describing something that's sort of in between, to the great disadvantage of MS holders.

    I looked at their site:
Doctor of Information Technology | Online Doctoral Degree | Walden University

Those core courses do look like an undergrad curriculum.

Did you contact the school for an appeal?

I did not contact them for an appeal, but I guess I could look into it. I just don't want to waste my time. It would be good to know if anyone has gotten more than 3 transfer credits or if this is just a marketing ruse.

It gets more interesting. I called Walden and used an alias. I wanted to see if a different enrollment adviser would give me the same information that the first one did about transfer credits. I asked the adviser to explain how their transfer credit works for the Doctor of IT.

He said "if you have a master's in computer science you get 15 transfer credits."

I asked him to tell me which courses get the credit applied and he rattled off the list of core courses. I told him that none of my master's degree courses match the courses he mentioned. He said "they don't have to match you get a 15 credit block transfer."

So this matches what the first adviser told me a few weeks back and matches what's listed on the website.

So at this point I told him my real name and said I was calling to verify what I had been previously told. I explained my situation and told him I only received 3 of the 15 credits. He pulled up my record and said everything looks fine and he has no idea why I did not get the 15 credits.

He said this goes against everything he's been told. He said they tell everyone that a masters in computer science will get you 15 transfer credits regardless of the courses taken. He said it's in their internal talking points.

He said he would investigate and call me tomorrow. More to come ....

OK. So this appears to be a miscommunication between my enrollment adviser and the admissions department. They evaluated my transcript as having no degree since my degree has not been conferred. I told my adviser it had not been conferred yet somewhere that information got dropped.

It does appear that if you have a master's degree in an IT related field you do in fact get 15 hours of transfer credit towards the Doctor of IT program at Walden. So instead of 64 semester hours you only need 49. This makes it the fastest online IT doctorate and the 2nd cheapest (next to Dakota State).
