  1. What luck have some of you had with getting admissions requirements waived? I have seen a lot of posts that recommended emailing someone at a school about the admission requirements. Well, Friday I did exactly that. I emailed a department member/head (was referred to them by admission counselor) letting them know that I was interested in a particular program. The conversation went much better that I thought so I wanted to know if it was the norm. This was from a very well known state school.

There is always the possibility of getting specific admissions requirements waived. Many factors influence such waivers. One can only pursue all available options and hope for the best possible outcome for one's individual needs.

As has been said many times on this forum, it never hurts to ask. Like you, I've found some programs willing to waive some requirements, particularly GRE scores, due to having already earned a JD. Ask and you may receive. What kind of program are you looking at?

  4. They are more of a personal endeavor now at this point. I have narrowed it down to two programs (same school). Either a MS in Management, or an MA in Educational Psychology. For a while now I have wanted to get a business related masters. The MA stems from my "backdoor" love of psychology. Plus my wife wants to open up a daycare in a few years so I figured it couldn't hurt. Basically, I still have about 20 months worth of VA benefits left so I decided to take a couple of classes here and there before it all expires.

The conversation was pretty funny. I let them know that I already had a graduate degree and that I wouldn't be able to take the GRE or MAT until the end of the year because I'm overseas. We ironed out an understanding of the policy. Then I explained that I had taken the LSAT instead of the GRE or MAT. Next email was "Well, we would be willing to accept that. I'm going to talk with the rest of the department and then I will let you know".

CSUDH waived a couple of prerequisites for my MSQA based on my work experience. The dept head signed a waiver. Plus I had already completed two courses in the program as an open university student.

Are you still at Cooley? I hope your not trying to balance your JD and a masters at the same time, that would be extremely difficult.

  7. No, I'm no longer at Cooley. I graduated in January and passed the February Bar. Doing both at the same time would be murder.
