Is there any volunteered teaching positions online? I need some experiences in teaching online. Looking at all the positions who are only considering those with experience, I think I would rather spend sometime volunteering and build up with online teaching experiences first.

What about trying to audit classes that you want to teach. From my understanding many Universities will allow you to audit, but you will still need to pay the price of the class.

For example, you can audit as many English classes as you please to gain a better insight into the English teaching realm. Also you could audit EDU. classes to help you gain a solid foundation in classroom politics.

    Just a thought.

Volunteer teaching positions? Now why would you give away your labor power for free?

Hey Ted, I understand your point. You make a good one, but I think Jack is interested mainly in gaining experience in teaching. I know of many who do it all the time, especially newly graduated students with Master's Degrees that cannot find jobs because of..."no experience".

Slavery went out (at least in this country) with the Thirteenth Amendment. And that was 145 years ago now.

LOL. I see your point, BUT it doesn't mean many, besides the OP cannot or should not volunteer to gain experience.

When I was learning to do Public Speaking, I volunteered to gain experience. Now I feel as though I can do it extremely well because of this volunteer work done by myself many moons ago.

I think it is a good idea...

But may I also point out-

    Slavery is different from volunteerism.

Okay, here is what I did and it worked pretty well. I went to a local tech school and offered to volunteer as an assist teacher. They told me that they did not have any volunteer positions but their regular teacher (teaches day and night classes) has not had a vacation in 2 years - they needed a sub for a week. I took a week off my day job and worked 9-12 and 6-10 everyday as a sub at $20 hour. They kept me oncall as a sub for a while and I filled in when I could. That gave me the teaching experience on paper I needed to help land my first online teaching gig.

Slavery and volunteerism are both work without pay.

This is a good idea for the OP. Excellent thought process. OP, are there many CC's in your general area? I have heard of many who traveled a great distance for an adjunct position, so maybe this can be the same direction for you.

I would even stay away from CCs at first since there would be a lot of red tape. The for-profit tech schools that have an IT program or Business Program (whatever your field is) may be the easiest to get into.

University of the People seems to be for a good cause, maybe I can get the experience as well as do some good for the community. Appreciate the feedback.

Nope, just an answer to the question of getting experience in teaching.
