Here's one recently discussed on the Telecampus forum: Vernell University. I was interested to see how similar the campus building pictured on Vernell's main page is to the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center at Coker College. I guess they used the same architect.
I love the fact that the Philosophy doctorate includes the study of "Soctares", and for Chinese philosophy, we have: "PAPHI331. Chinese Thought Traditional ideological system of China, especially Confusianism" John Bear, student of confusianism
VU is another Robert Kerr product and shares the same bogus accreditor, Inter-Collegiate Joint Committee On Academic Standards, as whatever school is being printed on diplomas sold by yourdegreenow.com .
Wow, and they talk about being accredited and offering Pell Grants and other forms of financial aid. I did find it interesting that one of the medical courses was in 'Body Fluids.' John
And look! Vernell's alumni association page is nearly identical to that of "Alexandria University" -- right down to the names and graduation dates of the 2001-2002. Actually, the entire content of the two websites seems to be the same except for the university name.
I've been an unwilling but strict follower of confusianism for many years. I'm very pleased but was previously unaware that the Chinese have raised it to the level of a whole ideological system. Although I was always suspicious that a degree in confusianism was required in order to get a job for toy companies writing assembly instructions.
I've just been asked for expert advice in a case regarding a business executive with a Vernell degree. My favorite line on their website is in the Alumni section: "The Alumni Relations Office is located on campus in the Office of Institutional Advancement (at the top of the stairs to the right of the Chapel)." The "campus" is a Mail Boxes Etc. box rental store in the Walkill Plaza Mall in Middletown, NY. One of the two-story models with the chapel upstairs, I guess.
Funny, the Alumni Relations office at "Holy Names College" (an RA school in Oakland) is also "located on campus in the Office of Institutional Advancement (at the top of the stairs to the right of the Chapel)." In fact, the the entire Vernell Alumni page seems to be virtually identical to Holy Names'. What a coincidence! http://www.hnc.edu/site/alumni/association.html
A Google search for Vernell finds the President of what seems to be quite a large technology company with a Master's and a Doctorate from Vernell. (This is not the person I was asked about earlier today; there are at least two Vernell alumni out there.)
...Cranston University too. There'a an interesting list which identifies its content as degree mills to be found here: http://www.mo99.com/pages/d2/n008.htm So we seem to have Alexandria University http://www.alexandriauniversity.org/ http://www.alexandriauniversity.org/anthro1.html Cranston University http://www.cranstonuniversity.org/ http://www.cranstonuniversity.org/anthro1.html Templeton University http://www.templetonuniversity.org/ http://www.templetonuniversity.org/anthro1.html Vernell University http://www.vernelluniversity.org/ http://www.vernelluniversity.org/anthro1.html Compare the welcome messages with that of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln: ======================= Lincoln Welcome to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's web site. The TW site is pretty cheesy-- take a look at the Vice Chancellor's picture on the page http://www.geocities.com/twuniversity/ for example. Enough. Now I will do laundry. G
Additional members of this stable include Lexington University, Hampton College, and the apparently defunct Columbia Western University. At various times, these faux-schools have been fronted by sites such as degrees-r-us.com.
Re: ...Cranston University too. I believe that this is the list from The Australian, brought to us a year ago by George Brown. See http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,5017662%5e23004,00.html
