https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2022-harvard-university-of-texas-richest-college-oil-endowments/ The University of Texas' endowment could surpass Harvard's, making it the richest higher ed institution in the U.S. Every day, the UT System makes about $6 million off a mineral-rich swath of land it manages in the US’s largest oil field.
Come and listen to my story about a man named Jed A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed, And then one day he was shootin at some food, And up through the ground come a bubblin crude. Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.
Wow, that's good for UT. I guess they're all set to go full steam ahead, what are they doing with the endowment? From the graph, it seems they've just surpassed Yale to take second spot... Hopefully, UT will put that into good use to enhance educational infrastructure, support, teaching, and so on as a whole. In other words, spending wisely on a better school system or to improve the current one in all aspects...
I’ve known that UT was #2 behind Harvard, but that always seemed strange for a public university funded by taxpayers.
They have devoted alumni. Not quite as cult like in their fanaticism as another school in that state (A&M). A&M is a whole other level of culture and alumni network and tradition that is carried on worldwide.
I can speak for A&M. Yes to all that Garp said. Why do I say this? I have three cousins that graduated from A&M. My best friend of 40 plus years graduated from A&M. He was in the Corp and ran the 5 and 10 for them in track. My son wants to go there and study engineering ( he is an 8th grader) and swim for them. We go there twice a year ( Gulf Age Group Champs and the Aggieland Invitational), me as a USA Swim Official and my son, as a club member swimmer. Yes, Garp is right. LOL
The Corps is amazing. Designated one of six senior military colleges in the United States. It produces officers for all branches. Its band is legendary (ranked #1). Members of the Corps live in residence and progress like other members of Military colleges. Highly disciplined and a sense of esprit de corps. https://today.tamu.edu/2015/12/01/usa-today-poll-ranks-the-aggie-band-as-no-1-in-the-nation/
Yes. I stayed in barracks ( ok, dorm rooms) when a friend of mine and he were running a 15K race that next day ( it was a Friday night, so most folks were gone and my bestie let us in. We might have been staying in his room, my memory fails me). My best friend could not run because he had a game with "same said" UT later on. We both ( the friend and I) went to Yell Practice at Kyle Field ( I think it is at midnight. This was 1984, so I am not sure). I remember the lights were out, the Corp were on the field and the stadium was full and LOUD!.
They're covering tuition for students whose families earn under $65k. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/education/2019/07/09/university-texas-free-tuition-low-income-students/1688445001/
Raise cost for many, lower for a few. Total revenue must rise, not fall. Sounds exactly like our Provincial Government - and that's not a compliment.
Yep, because 4 months after this: We got this: "The University of Texas System approved an across-the-board tuition hike of 2.6% for its eight academic campuses..." https://www.texastribune.org/2019/11/14/university-texas-system-increases-tuition-26-2020-and-2021/
Curious about what that is based on. Anecdotal? If so, you were in a long time ago. Is it current objective information? I do respect the Chair Force.
LOL. Our median income is not far off from the national median income. So, covering families who make under $65k covers a surprising number of households.
Thanks. I stand corrected. As Humphrey Bogart (as Rick Blaine) once said, in "Casablanca," "I was misinformed."
