From just released SATS newsletter: _________________________________________________________ (quoting..) Since we received accreditation for our DTh degree a month ago, we have been working on the registration of the programme with the Department of Education and with the South African Qualifications Authority. We hope that these processes will be completed by the end of the year and that we will be able to begin the programme in early 2008. Although we obviouly cannot formally enrol any students until the process is complete, we have already had a number of applications. Our doctoral programme offers a choice between two fields of study, Biblical Studies or Practical Theology. You will conduct your research under the supervision of one or two experts in the chosen field(s) of study. On enrolment you will be required to complete RES6600, Theological Research Methodology, a course which culminates in the submission of your dissertation proposal to the Postgraduate Committee. The first phase of the DTh consists of preliminary research culminating in the submission of your research proposal. You have a maximum of 12 months to submit your research proposal, failing which your registration for the DTh will lapse. If and when your dissertation proposal is accepted, under the guidance of your supervisor you will be required to write a dissertation consisting of 80,000 to 100,000 words. There is no coursework and no examination. Fees: Research Proposal Tuition Fee (a max. of 12 months) R14000 ($2000). Thereafter, you are required to pay the annual tuition fee of R14000 ($2000) for each year enrolled, with a minimum payment of four consecutive years. Should a fifth or subsequent year be necessary to complete the programme, the annual tuition fee will be levied. Fees are increased annually in January. For futher information please contact the Postgraduate Registrar, Mrs Leschenne Rebuli at [email protected] or phone her on +27 21 852 6473.
Wow! I'm surprised by the cost. Still cheaper than the U.S., but more than other SA schools. Wonder why? Roscoe
Program cost.. Yes, it is higher than some, Unisa for example. Perhaps higher for the same reason as in the USA -- Private schools cost more than state schools (??). ___________________________________________________________ 2007-2008 tuition and foreign levy for Unisa doctorate in theology, is R7410 + 1160 = 8570. At today's exchange rate, that's about $1260 / year. ---------- SATS will be R14000 total, which is about $2060 / year as of today. --------- I'm not current on costs of US doctorates in religion / theology, but am sure they are substantially higher.
