Does anyone know anything about this University of Wexford in Zurich, Switzerland? I am curious if they are an legitimate Distance Learning university or a scam? I got an email from them ([email protected]) offering me a degree in Computer Information Technology Degree. Their corresponding address is listed in Zurich, Switzerland, but yet they requested credit card payment through Hyacinth, Romania. Any information is much appreciated on them. Thank you. Philip C.
Additional red flags: The domain was registered in May and the "school" appears to have had no existence prior to that time. A physical address that was initially given on their contact page was that of a business services provider. A physical presence is implied in several paragraphs of their literature, but no specific location is given. No faculty or administration is listed. No mention as to the source of their degree-granting authority. This looks like one to avoid. ------------------ Bill Gossett
Didn't Brentwick et al go through Hyacinth? Wexford looks like one to avoid. Note that europe.com is a free email service. This plus the Swiss address and Romanian payment should make you wary. Switzerland is a haven for fake universities. The "Schweizer Universitaet Zürich",the "Freie und Private Universitaet Herisau" and the "Freie Universitaet Teufen",for example. They write: "We believe that the current diversity within the Swiss higher education system is a strength and that the University of Wexford should be able to pursue excellence within the context of its distinctive mission and aspirations, which have evolved from its history, academic character, size and social structure." They also write: "The University has strong links with the local community enabling students and staff to participate in a wide range of partnership initiatives. These links facilitate the University's commitment to vocational education and lifelong learning and, as a result the University has developed into the type of institution that the Government is now advocating as the model for higher education." "Operator! I'd like to study at the University of Wexford in Zurich. You know, this university that has strong links with the local community.Could you please give me their phone number? I'm sorry Sir,I'm not able to find this university in our directories. Are you sure they are in Zurich?" There is no University of Wexford in Zurich and the telephone number they give is ex-directory. How strong the links with the local community are! Is it useful to add that nobody in Switzerland knows this fake? The "University of Wexford" is a SCAM. Ulrich
