Hello, I am looking to register for University of Liverpool's Business Administration program (DBA) through their distance learning component.

I have searched this forum (and many others) exhaustively, looking for information on distance learning, on Liverpool, on Laureate Online, etc.

I have talked to the Laureate "Enrollment Advisor", I have talked to Liverpool directly. The Liverpool folks say that it is taught by the Liverpool professors, and it fairly identical to the on-campus program. What is the role of Laureate Online? Because they deliver both the Walden and Liverpool programs, will the degrees be the same from either institution (with Walden being much less expensive).

I know that it is an expensive program, but I am willing to make the investment if it is a legitimate program. Are there any current students of this program that can comment on the usability of the learning? Because it is Laureate, is there any wiggle room on the tuition rates? (I know that Walden offered me 20% off the tuition).

I need a program that I can start fairly quickly (I could make it in time for their May intake) and this fits the bill.

Any help, feedback, experiences, thoughts will be appreciated before I shell out the admission fee, and more!

    Thanks.

And as an offshoot question, is the DBA degree itself valuable?

Hi, maybe nobody is taking this course? If that is the case, I am wondering if it would be a good course...

I think it is a fairly new program, it does look interesting though!! $53k seems like a lot for a foreign university that is not EQUIS/AACSB, etc? But the 100% online is nice. They are on my "look closer" list when I actually get ready to pick my program.

Another possible option, Baker College is RA and in the states and 10k or more cheaper? Couple others here in the states depending on your travel requirements.

Thanks for your reply! I was wondering about the accreditation of Liverpool. It says since 1800's, etc., and that it basically doesn't need AACSB accreditation. The Liverpool website says that the degree is accepted as the equivalent in both Canada (where I am) and the US. How can I be sure?

You can check with WES if you are in Canada. I'm almost positive that would be considered equivalent to a Canadian PhD. However, foreign degree evaluators like WES put all the degrees in one basket.

The question is, why you need the DBA for? If you want it for teaching, I would say that you might need to contact your prospect employer to check acceptability.

It is indeed a very interesting DBA program that I feel would fit my needs. The part I find most interesting is that the program structure aids non-academics like me in the completion of their dissertations in a way that a traditional PhD program would not.

However, one thing that puts me off this program is the non-responsiveness of the service provider. I filled up their enquiry form expecting them to e-mail or telephone me for more details on the program but was met with dead silence. Not once, but I filled up the same form 3 times. So no way would I part with USD53,000 to take a risk with them.

    Hi,

I got an Msc from Liverpool and I can confirm that it is a serious university that cannot be compared to for profit schools in the US in terms of academic rigor and quality. I literally spend a solid 2 years 25 -30 hours a week on the degree and it was tough and of high quality. I have received positive feedback in academic circles on the university and am fairly confident that no one will look down on a Liverpool degree.

    Cheers,

    Matt

I have to admit I am impressed with their backgroup, University of Liverpool - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia EIGHT Nobel Prize winners, and the fact that it is online just means a VERY well respected University has finally stepped up.

It looks like a good opportunity, one of my questions will be, can you focus your degree in an area (Accounting in my case), if so, they move to the top of my list...price is hefty but in line with Nova SE.

I heard that they are pursuing very seriously AACSB accreditation. I would validate these intentions with them, if they are really serious about it, I think the 53K is a real good deal as it might easily duplicate once they get the accreditation.
The reason of the low response might be an indicator that they are just super busy with requests. I know that your generation is used to returns in 48 hrs, but back in the 90s when I did my MBA, it used to take 3 to 4 months before you would get an answer from a school so just shill a little be.

Well, the thing is, I have waited longer than the 3 to 4 months. Considering it was 2010 (at the time I sent in the 'Information Request' form and not the 1990s, it is quite unreasonable not to get a response don't you think so. What more Laureate is supposed to be the marketing arm for Liverpool and thus should be more than well-equipped to handle a large influx of information requests. Perhaps one can try filling in the form now and see if a response is gotten. Here is the link if you like:

I was looking for a degree from an actual bricks and mortar school rather than just an online institution. Does AACSB accreditation matter if the school (Liverpool) is "government accredited" in the UK? It's a lot of dough, but I am willing to spend it if I get a reputable degree.

Dba at Liverpool: I am seeking same info. Is any one enrolled in the program?

Ttl cost of the program is little over 60K versus 53K.

Currently I am enrolled in the studies and it required 99.5% your contribution. You may need to study min 25 hours a week, lot of work and little input fm Faculty. You will learn by exploring your own thoughts with research.

Have you considered the Heriot-Watt-Edinburgh Business School DBA Self Study + EBS Supervisor pathway? “There is no fixed start date for the DBA program; you can apply and commence your studies at any time of year.”
Perhaps they’ll be more responsive regarding your inquiry (vs. Laureate Online) (?).
