I am finally ready to apply to UNISA for my PhD. I have one final concern and am awaiting a reply from IACI, but in the meantime I thought someone on the boards might have some insight.

I have been looking at the Health Studies department for my degree for a couple of years. I just found some info on the website that I had not seen before; there is a list of the faculty along with the history of the department. It seems that it used to be the nursing department, and the entire faculty have nursing backgrounds. I did not see any research interests directly related to mine. I am a master’s level exercise physiologist and have a full-time job conducting osteoarthritis and exercise research. This is applied research that benefits physical therapists, orthopedists, fitness trainers and the like in using exercise as therapy for persons with OA. My proposed doctoral thesis involves a clinical trail of an innovative exercise program in relieving symptoms of knee OA.

While my work dovetails perfectly with my goal of obtaining a PhD by research, I am not sure that there would be an appropriate mentor available in UNISA’s Health Studies department. I have not seen any other department listed that would be more appropriate, but I may have missed something. If anyone has any insight on a better route, please advise. Thanks!
