Alaska Airlines told HuffPost that the plane returned to the gate after the captain and first officer had a “professional disagreement.” https://www.huffpost.com/entry/alaska-airlines-flight-delayed-after-2-pilots-fight_n_62d85417e4b06e213fba4578 I'm glad it happened before they took off.
The decision to fly in bad weather is left to the aircraft commander's discretion. It sounds like they disagreed over this. While the demeanor of one, the other, or both might be in question, if they couldn't agree regarding flight safety, the right thing to do was to return to the gate.
Alaska Air has some of the best pilots in the world. They routinely fly in less than ideal conditions so they have the experience I prefer when flying. I also think they made the best decision here. Regardless of the reason for the disagreement I would prefer to be delayed a few hours over the potential alternative to flying with a pilot in the midst of a heightened emotional event.
