    TCU & BROWN TEAL

TO UNCLE J - BROWN TEAL (WHICH WERE HISTORICALLY CALLED - THE BROWN DUCK) DON'T QUACK.
WES GRADY - HAS OBVIOUSLY HAD LESSONS IN RUDENESS FROM THE GREAT RC?
SADLY, ONLY THREE RESPONDENTS HAVE APPRECIATED THE POINT I WAS ATTEMPTING TO DISCUSS. :)

DRWETSCH HAS ALSO HAD LESSONS FROM RC?
IF HE WOULD LIKE TO TRY AGAIN - [email protected] - OR LOOK AT www.hayesandassociates.co.nz - OR DO A GOOGLE SEARCH ON NZ BROWN TEAL, I'M SURE HE WILL TRACK ME DOWN.
THE - [email protected] - HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR OVER NEARLY TWO YEARS AND NO OTHER PROBLEMS HAVE SO FAR BEEN EXPERIENCED.
    :)

    Re: TCU

I was able to access the web site and I will try again on the e-mail.

Not sure who RC is? I believe we all appreciate your position with TCU but you need to accept the point that from an academic perspective the degree is worthless.

    Dr Hayes:

In perusing your Web site, I couldn’t help but notice that Hayes and Associates is a licensed arms dealer and importers/exporters of quality shooting sports equipment, and that you offer an extremely large selection of new and used rifles, handguns and shotguns.

Being that you appear to be an expert in two converging fields, perhaps you could answer a question or two. If I wanted to hunt me some New Zealand Brown Teal, what would be the weapon of choice to blow away the greatest number of NZ Brown Teals in the shortest amount of time? And, if it isn’t too much trouble, do you have any good recipes? (Let me guess, tastes like chicken, right?) ;)

TCU is a degree mill. If you read the explanations in Bear's Guide on accreditation, etc. then, I think you'll have to agree that TCU is at least a very sorry excuse for a school.

If your work is even half as impressive as it sounds, you're doing it a great disservice by even associating it with TCU.

    TCU & BROWN TEAL

GUS SAINZ CERTAINLY NEEDS TO READ THE MANUAL!
BROWN TEAL HAVE BEEN TOTALLY PROTECTED FROM HUNTING SINCE 1921, BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN PROTECTED (UNTIL THE LAST FEW MONTHS) FROM INTRODUCED FERRETS, STOATS, FERAL CATS, HAWKS, AND SO ON.
BROWN TEAL ARE NOW ONLY FOUND IN TWO AREAS - GREAT BARRIER ISLAND, WHERE THERE IS NO SHOOTING) AND WHERE AROUND 700 SURVIVE, AND AT THE MIMIWHANGATA PARK AREA OF NORTHLAND WHERE THERE ARE AROUND 250 - THIS IS NOW THE ONLY AREA WHERE BROWN TEAL SURVIVE ON THE NZ MAINLAND.
HISTORICALLY, MOST OF THE WORLD'S LEADING WILD ANIMAL PRESERVATIONISTS (I CERTAINLY WOULDN'T PUT MYSELF IN THIS CATEGORY) STARTED LIFE AS HUNTERS - SIR PETER SCOTT, JEFFERY HARRISON, ASPINALL, DURRELL, ETC - AND THE WETLAND WORK DONE BY DUCKS UNLIMITED (IN FOUR COUNTRIES) HAS ALL BEEN FINANCED BY DUCK HUNTERS. IN NZ THE KEY PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE BROWN TEAL RECOVERY PROGRAMME ARE MAINLY DUCKS UNLIMITED MEMBERS - WHO HAVE POURED HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS INTO WATERFOWL AND WETLANDS.

    TCU & BROWN TEAL

I SOMEHOW RAN OUT OF SPACE IN MY LAST POST. WHAT I WAS GOING TO ADD IS THAT THE OPEN POLYTECHNIC OF NZ (WHERE I WAS EMPLOYED FOR 24 YEARS) OFFERS AN EXCELLENT DISTANCE EDUCATION COURSE, ENTITLED "WETLANDS". THE POLYTECHNIC, WHICH OFFERS AN ARRAY OF DEGREES THROUGH DISTANCE EDUCATION, CAN BE CONTACTED THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE -
    www.topnz.ac.nz
IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE NEW FILM ON NZ WETLANDS, WHICH I MENTIONED EARLIER, WILL BE ADDED TO THE TOPNZ "WETLANDS" COURSE MATERIAL. THE COURSE COVERS - TYPES OF WETLANDS, WHAT BIRDS & ANIMALS USE WETLANDS, THE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT ACT, WATER PERMITS, WETLAND CREATION, ENHANCEMENT AND MANAGEMENT, ETC..
I AM STILL AN ADJUNCT TUTOR FOR TOPNZ, WHICH HAS AROUND 40,000 STUDENTS ANNUALLY.
AS A NOW WELL QUALIFIED WILDLIFE PROFESSIONAL I CAN ONLY SELL RECIPES FOR COOKING WILD DUCK! :)

RC (not JC) = RICH DOUGLAS
I SEE THAT RC IS NOT CONTRIBUTING TO 'DEGREEINFO' ANYMORE, BUT I SEE HE IS STILL POSTING ON OTHER DL SITES; WHERE HE HAS ALSO UPSET MANY CONTRIBUTORS.
BUT AS I MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY, ON ONE OF THE OTHER SITES, HE IS OBVIOUSLY QUITE KNOWLEDGEABLE IN MANY AREAS OF DL AND WITH MORE REFINEMENT AND AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE HUMAN BRAIN (ESSENTIAL IN DL & CORRESPONDENCE) HE COULD BE AN INVALUABLE CONTRIBUTOR.
HIS DOWNFALL IS PROBABLY THAT HE TRAINED AS A LAWYER?
IN ANY CASE HE WILL BE MISSED.

    TCU PhD

THE TCU PhD DEBATE HAS OBVIOUSLY RUN ITS COURSE, BUT I DID NOTE JOHN BEAR ADVERTISING HIS BOOK ON THIS SITE AND THOUGHT I'D MENTION THAT MY NEW BOOK "NATURAL HISTORY, CAPTIVE MANAGEMENT & SURVIVAL OF THE NZ BROWN TEAL" (inspired by TCU) WILL APPEAR IN PRINT ANY DAY.
WHILST IT WILL NOT SELL AS MANY COPIES AS THE BEAR BOOK I BELIEVE IT MAY POSSIBLY BE OF GREATER VALUE TO THE WORLD OF 'EDUCATION'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE A COPY IT CAN BE ORDERED THROUGH
www.hayesandassociates.co.nz (which has a protected order form for credit cards) PRICE IS ONLY $25 US, INCLUDING AIR POST. LOTS OF READING AND GOOD PICS. :)

    1) If (as I gather) you wrote the dissertation essentially on your own, what did your "long involvement with TCU" involve?

    2) Is your argument that because TCU motivated you to do something worthwhile, TCU must be worthwhile? If one person is foolish enough to believe that Monopoly money is valuable and does some worthwhile work in exchange for it, does that prove that Monopoly money is actually worth something?

Since these earlier posts the manual "NATURAL HISTORY, CAPTIVE MANAGEMENT & SURVIVAL OF THE NZ BROWN TEAL" has been distributed world wide, and, as mentioned in the 'amiable' Knightsbridge discussions, has been very well received. It certainly seems to be one of the more useful 'unaccredited' dissertations. But, of course, it has now been accredited by many of the world's waterfowl authorities!
As I earlier thought might happen, the manual is already proving to be a valuable educational document.
So far the only 'negative' comment has come from NZ's fossil expert, who said "You cannot possibly say that because brown teal have been here for over 10,000 years it is an ancient and primitive form of duck!" To which I responded "I've been fortunate to visit ancient Rome on several occasions, and Rome is only a few thousand years old!". Others have been in total agreement with my thoughts on this - which simply confirmed what Peter Scott said in 1957.
    "Duck Boy' in 'paradise'.

Mark, I believe I've answered your questions in about 2,000 words spread throughout various DegreeInfo posts. Of course, I'm happy to continue to discuss/promote/advocate the brown teal situation indefinitely if that's what you would like.
My 'uncle' has read the TCU dissertation and has commented on it under the Knightsbridge thread. If you would also like to read it let me know.

    Re: TCU PhD

As I said before, I have no problem believing that fn has produced a fine piece of research. I believe the point he has been trying to make is that good research can be conducted at an unaccredited school (am I right?). There are a couple of points that I would make in this regard. The first is that it seems clear that fn's research has little to do with the school. He did it all himself. He doesn't even know who the peer reviewer might have been (to me this means there wasn't one). Regardless of that, the work seems to stand on its own as a solid piece to research. I think the point that (some) others are making is that the success of this research means exactly nothing about the school or the degree. Others are not likely to enjoy such success from their association with this school. fn has stated that the PhD award was insignificant compared to the overall process of the research and the eventual results of his efforts. Others seem to be pointing out that this is a good thing as the PhD itself means nothing. I'm left thinking that there's really no difference of opinion here. I would only want to gently add that fn has come dangerously close to violating the terms of service agreement by his advertising and solicitation of orders for his book. May the Brown Teal be fruitful and multiply!
