This New Solar EV Has a 1,000-Mile Range—But You May Never Need to Charge It https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/solar-ev-1-000-mile-190000669.html The vehicle is powered by individual wheel-mounted electric motors that can also be charged via the standard 110-volt outlets found in pretty much any American household. The company predicts its top model, the Paradigm Plus, which sports a battery of 100 kWh will be capable of covering 1,000 miles from a single charge. The
Another 3-wheeler. Neat... but where's the rest of it? And for that money, (or for considerably less than the deluxe model) I can buy a 4-wheel electric from a big co. like Nissan that has a dealer network all over. I'm out. Actually, that $45K should get you a nice new Ford Mustang Mach E electric. That's a good-looking, complete CAR, not 3/4 of one, with a space underneath for dogs to run. And the backing of a 100+ year-old company. At around $8K these would fly out of the dealership. At $30 - 46K? Well, I think that's an insult.
The sad thing is that this co. has been through insolvency once. At the very least, an insolvency can be construed as a lesson - what to do / not do in the future. In this case, I don't think anyone has learned ---well, anything. On track for another ka-boom, I think.
Actually, no, Steve - I had to look it up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elio_Motors Only 3 years ago. 3-wheeler, looks a lot like the Paradigm, except gas-powered. Production has been delayed 8 years now. No indication they're still even trying to raise funds. If you have one - hold on to it. It's a unicorn...
It's a composite three wheeled motorcycle with an enclosed cab, achieving high battery mileage is nothing new. Looks like they're marketing this one well though and certainly hitting some styling and designs that will lead to sales, if they do come to market. There doesn't appear to be anything "new" about this, outside of packaging and marketing.
It's a very expensive, somewhat odd-looking toy. But not sold at toy prices. I would NOT take this thing out on a highway. That's for REAL cars - OK, for REAL motorcycles too, just not with me on one. For this kind of money, I can get any number of electric cars that are safe and conventional, insofar as driving them is concerned. It's cute. But nothing is $30-46K cute. That kind of cute does not exist. Soon be gone ...again. Might have unicorn value -- someday. In your collection, of course - not your driveway.
