I wasn't trying to be funny or insulting; that's my honest opinion. As Michael Savage has stated, liberalism is a mental disorder.

I don't think that Bruce was trying to be funny. I think that he was suggesting that the post that he was responding to seemed so inflated with political anger as to almost be obsessional. It struck me the same way.

I think that this forum is doing serious damage to Degreeinfo. It's a distraction from the board's primary focus. Worse, it's creating lasting divisions and resentments among people that might otherwise have regarded each other as friends and allies.

So I'm suggesting that the political forum be deleted. There are other websites out there where anyone who really wants to throw political punches can mix it up to their heart's content.

Gee, for all the mental health practitioners I've seen in the past two decades, that's one diagnosis they seem to have overlooked. I'll ask them about it next appointment.

What would happen to people's post counts if we entirely deleted the the Political Discussions sub-forum?

Most forums I belong to have some kind of political forum. Even if they don't, politics come up in "Off Topic". People should be able to discuss any topic in an adult manner. This forum survived the height of the "W" era. People like you and I were called some pretty ugly names for being against policies that have now come to light as not being wise or good for the country in the long term. People sure had there fun throwing around terms like unamerican, unpatriotic, terrorist, etc. There was one guy (a raving neo con) who used to like to berate people (always Dems) with all types of words like stupid, pinhead, etc. I took to dueling with him and ran him off this board. He then went to another board and started up the same crap. I ran him off that board. I do not like bullies.

What am I trying to say? We are all adults. We should be able to deal with differing opinions and assholes. No matter what topic, there will always be someone ready to put down someone else or something else. We cannot be so frail so as to shirk at the slightest argument or afront. As a martial artist, I strive to live by the ying and yang philosophy. The code I live by requries me to be kind and peaceful. Conversely, I must also be able to respond to violence if it is visited upon me, my family or even a stranger. A martial artist who only ponders peace but cannot engage in battle is not a true martial artist. So the mere fact I am martial artist does not mean I cannot defend myself.

So what am I trying to say? Let the political forum stay. It is not my decision of course. I am but a lone unimportant voice in the scheme of things. I do not seek to push my opinions on anyone. However, I do think we could all learn form on another. I have disagreed with many of my Republican brothers on this forum. However, when they had a question or pm'd me with help on something, I helped them, and they helped me when I needed it. Just water under the bridge. This is not a fight to the death. No matter what party is in control, the country will survive.

    Buenos Dios Caballeros,

I am going to lunch with my lovely wife. :)

P.S. Thanks to those who encouraged me to get up off my ass and start my next class. It is easy to get lazy.

Even if liberalism is a mental disorder (which it is not, according to DSM-IV(r)) it is not OK to call out a poster on a public forum and suggest they may need mental health assistance.

And yes, I've read the comments by some non-professional comparing liberal politicians to those with narcissistic personality disorder; while those politicians (and many conservative ones as well) may indeed exhibit characteristics of narcissism, we're talking about separate things.

If there's a genuine concern for someone's health and well-being, then sending a PM to that person would be helpful and appropriate. Calling them out in a public forum and indicating they need mental help is in the realm of personal attacks, and isn't appropriate.

I posted this thread in 2004, and it still applies.

I don't mean to single anyone out. These sorts of posts appear all the time in the political discussions section (very rarely anywhere else) which is why I've always felt like this part of the board isn't really very useful.

Let's just all try to play nice, eh?

Does your 2004 thread linked hereinabove have a sticky? If not, it should. I tried to bumpity that to making this comment over there, but noticed that6 the thread had been closed.

    Hey,

Look up the thread entitled "Hueva Syndrome". Bruce, Kevin and some others encouraged me to continue with my classes. I was contemplating kicking back until after the holidays. They said I should keep going. I thought they were right, so I ordered my book about a week ago. The class will be Business Management. I have two classes and a capstone to go for my MBA at Aspen.

    See ya bro,

    Abner :)

I find it amazing that we (Americans) find it so easy to criticize decision makers, yet we just sit back and enjoy our cushy lifestyles without taking action.

How many of us volunteer to teach classes in civics, history, etc. at community centers for teens or younger kids.

How many of us volunteer to teach young adults on personal finance.

Or even better, STEP up and run for office where you can use all these great ideas and criticism and actually make a difference.

Not to mention hundreds of other volunteer organizations that are bipartisan and with a simple mission to help each other out.

George Bush a "gut decider"???? sure. But any one who has held any leadership position where decisions directly impact someone else's life will always be criticized. (any who has served in the military during time of war should understand)

Let's not forget that we voted him into office for a second term....if we were so unsatisfied, we did we do it?????

I am an immigrant, and although I do not agree with many of his policies..... I understand I am not forced to live here, but I also understand that my family and I are much better off here.

lies? no weapons of mass destruction? Iraq a mistake?

    WMD in Iraq: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2006/06/22/report-hundreds-wmds-iraq/

    yellow cake in Iraq: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25546334/

I served in Iraq as a construction supervisor in the US Army, we completed hundred of reconstructions missions to improve police stations, hospitals, schools, government buildings, infrastructure and many other great missions that are never reported in the main media. For these you have to hunt down in blogs, newsletters, pentagon channel, etc.

I saw many of Saddam's torture chambers and met people tortured under his regime.... take a trip and ask Iraqis personally if Iraqi freedom was a mistake.

Not happy with someone else's decisions? take a step up and take action!!!

most communities have evening, weekend community programs, mostly for adults but many also for teens.
My hometown offer these through the adult/alternative high school or skills improvement programs.

city hall or school district are a good start.

Local churches, boys and girls clubs, boy/girl scouts, big brother/sister, etc. are other options.

community colleges in this area are looking for people to help teach GED prep and ESL classes to adults. (I'm planning to do this once I complete my BS)

really, there are many options, one just has to want to do it.

    good luck!!
