The destruction of AED is nearly complete

Moments ago, I viewed some of the posts on alt.education.distance. I had not logged on for some time. Now I'm sorry that I did. Besides the usual avalanche of degree mill-sympathizer spam, there is now an abundance of general spam as well as inappropriate crossposting. It's truly sad to see that newsgroup meet such a fate. I wish that it were possible that AED could die with some semblance of the dignity it once had. I sincerely thank the founders and administrators of this forum for maintaining an exceptionally high signal-to-noise ratio.

    Waiting for the flames,

Sorry! The title should read, "The destruction of AED is complete". Rest in peace, AED.

I wonder if this is the eventual fate of all unmoderated groups, Mark. It is surely what happened to Peterson's distance learning group 3 or 4 years ago . . . and a friend tells me that it happened to his chess group, for goodness sake, last year.

I still hang around at the old stand, and take a long look at what is going on there now. Other than the British invasion from uk.legal, there has been little DL input, but also no input from Factwatcher, alias scam, etc. If I may, I'd suggest just letting AED alone for a while, let the uk.legal folks play themselves out, and then see what happens. I do believe that, although it is possible AED may be useful once again, I still think that this moderated group was a very good idea, and should continue for as long as possible. I, for one, have found it useful and entertaining, as well as extremely informative. [IMG]
