I know there has been a lot of talk on the forum about which MBA is "best" - whatever that means. I'm currently looking for a distance MBA to pursue after I finish my Masters at Georgetown (MPS in public relations). I've scoured the forums for other's insight and I have taken away a ton. But... I am still unable to pinpoint the best program (for me).

So, here are my parameters - let me know if you can help.

    Looking for:
    1. An MBA for mid-career professionals (~10 years experience)
    2. An MBA which provides the perfect combination of price (max $30k), name recognition (B&M presence a must) and quality of education
    3. An MBA that can be completed in 2 years or less realistically
    4. An MBA with minimal prereqs (this is a nice-to-have as I am a non-business major)

    Note:
    1. A GMAT requirement is OK
    2. Short residency sessions are OK
    3. It can be from a non-US school

Given the parameters above, I have focused in on Auburn, UMASS Amherst, Marist, and Durham. Also, while pricier, Arizona State and IE look interesting.

    Any others?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Colorado State is a good school. Have you checked out www.geteducated.com for the list of MBA porograms?

My preference is to do a program with name recognition in the geographical area where you intend to work, otherwise go with the program that has the content you like.

Alabama, while not offering an MBA online does offer the the following:

MA Management which has classes similar to an MBA in content. I'm fond of Auburn but the price is silly compared to some other options. And depending on the message you want to send be careful of the region where you get your MBA. Your Georgetown degree will carry plenty of name recognition.

I live and work in the South so for me my degrees work. I can't say the same if I were to relocate to the northeast.

I haven't really kept up on distance MBA programs, but some of my favourites (among the schools you haven't metioned) are:

    University of Florida
    Warwick
    Henley

These are the more prestigious programs.

Good name recognition with less prestige would be:

Cal State Doninguez Hills (very reasonable qualifying program)
    Texas A & M Commerce
    University of Wyoming
    Miss State
    UMass Lowell

From your list my personal preferences are Auburn and UMass Amherst, with Auburn being my favourite.

Since you are Georgetown's student, then I assume you're in the Washington D.C metropolitan area? If that is the case, then you should try Georgetown's Evening MBA( Part-Time). Other than that, I would recommend for Penn State.

If you can attend and afford classes at Georgetown their Doctor of Liberal Studies (DLS) degree looks great and requires only 36 credits beyond your MPS degree

The University of Nebraska might be a good option for you. It is 48 credits at $360 per credit, bringing it in under 18k. It requires 5 years of experience, a 580 GMAT, and courses in statistics and calculus.

The downside is that it would take longer than 2 years and the reputation might not hold up in your area quite as well as some of the other programs.

I'm doing a DL MBA at Henley. You'll never do it in 2 years or less, I've been at it for 3 years and still have about another 6 months in my reckoning. IMO any rigorous MBA will require 3 years when studying in DL mode.

If you (heimer) want any info on Henley let me know or search for posts under my name. It fits your criteria except the 2-year bit.

    All the best,

    Dave C.
