While I am not technophobic, I do have a certain learning problem with the computer. I need to know how to get highlighted text read aloud by the computer. I know one of the keys is Alt, but the rest? I have windows and Vista.

I want to show my grandson I can keep up a bit with computers! (which I can't, but hopefully I can fool a nine year old a bit longer)

On my Macintosh, I paste the text into a TextEdit file, and click on "Start speaking." That's all there is to it.

I can choose about 20 different voices (male, female, alien, etc.), as well as speed of reading. Great fun.

And with more and more and more books becoming available free in digital form, I can cut and paste and then have them read to me while I'm doing something else.

I like the Macintalk feature. I especially like the voice they used for "Auto" in WALL-E... I've had him reciting film lines, and doing Hamlet's soliloquy...(They don't get the "th' 's" though...)
