Office of Public Affairs | Texas Man Convicted of Sabotaging his Employer’s Computer Systems and Deleting Data | United States Department of Justice

From March but it just came across my LinkedIn today.

The NYT identified his employer as Eaton Corporation in this article where they also note he was sentenced to 4 years in prison (gift link): https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/22/business/eaton-corporation-hack-prison-sentence.html?unlocked_article_code=1.108.BQCF.AN-otcShC8pb&smid=url-share

    About $400,000 in damages.

WOW! Thanks for the very interesting story.

His boss apparently wasn't clueless about him being a bad employee since he did get fired. He was dirt stupid though about the way he went about his sabotage. I mean they are going for sure know it was him because the system kind of self destructed when his name was removed from the employee list. Four years in prison seems fair to me. He put a lot of work into his malicious code. When he gets out of jail, I'll guess he will have a hard time finding a job, especially if he looks for a programming job.

This guy logged into their computer system after he was fired! That makes more sense. Less likely for him to be caught. It does demonstrate though that the folks in charge of the computer system need to be fired or maybe hire some professional help. No one should be able to log in without authorization.
