I know that we've already discussed this topic ad nauseam, but... I just received a student copy of my TESC transcript, and at the bottom it lists the following: DEGREES AND HONORS AWARDED: DEGREE: Bachelor of Arts MAJOR: Computer Science So, it seems that not only do that staff and advisors refer to it as a major, but it is also transcribed as such! Maybe this is a change from the way that they used to handle it. Of course, now I need to deal with issue of my Psychology major not being transcribed (though it does say "Program: BA in Psychology" at the top of each page), but at least I know how my degree and major(s) are listed.
TESC Hello Gary, Please post this information on the current and alumni section of the TESC webpage. I think the administrators from TESC are reading it. Hille
hmm I was wondering how those BAs from TESC were listed. I couldn't discern from their web site if it was truly a BACS or just a BA with CS concentration. Good to know. Jeremy
one more thing Gary, were you not able to find out from TESC how your degree would read, before actually receiving it? The suspense must have been killing you. Jeremy
I really wasn't sure how it would be transcribed, but then again I didn't really try terribly hard to find out. To be honest, I was under the impression (mostly from what people here have said) that it would probably be transcribed as a "concentration," even though the TESC staff refer to it as a major, and the requirements documents refer to it as a "major area of study." It probably would never have been an issue either way, but at least since TESC actually transcribes it this way noone can really argue that it shouldn't be referred to as a "BA in CS," or as a "BACS," or that it isn't really a major. I've pointed out before that TESC's CS major requirements really aren't out of line with what is required for a BA in CS from some other well-known schools, and now I have irrefutable support for legitimately listing it that way on a resume. Actually, I'll probably list it as: "BA in Computer Science / BA in Psychology (dual major)." If all goes well I'll have my MSCS in May, so the BA from TESC will just be supporting my MS, anyway. If I can muddle through the rest of this semester, that is.
Too bad for TESC At least for my $$$, I chose Excelsior because they advertized that there would be the terminology of the "major" on the diploma (saying nothing about the transcript). Because I wanted a "major" in English and not a "concentration," my only choice was Excelsior. I hope they list "major" on the transcript. If I find out otherwise, I may just move evertything to TESC just to get that notation. It's basically the only reason I chose Excelsior. Chris
TESC BA majors It seems to me that what TESC refers to as "major areas of study" are actually listed as the major on the transcript (BAs only) . Anyone know what the diploma says?
Just got off the phone with Excelsior and an attendant at the school of Liberal Arts assures me that the diploma "majors" will, in fact, be listed as "majors" on the transcripts. Chris
I just wanted to let everyone know that TESC cleared up the transcription mistake very quickly and sent me a new student copy of my transcript. Now it reads: DEGREES AND HONORS AWARDED: DEGREE: Bachelor of Arts MAJOR: Computer Science DEGREE: Bachelor of Arts MAJOR: Psychology So to avoid confusion I guess that I can safely list it separately as: BA in Computer Science, Thomas Edison State College BA in Psychology, Thomas Edison State College I don't think that the diploma lists majors, but I'll let you know if that's not the case (mine hasn't arrived yet).
It doesn't.. just the degree. Mine reads "Bachelor of Science in Human Services." I will likely spend the rest of my days explaining that while the BSHS is my degree, my major (as listed on the transcript) is Administration of Justice (not Human Services.) Congratulations, by the way.
