Hi everyone! I spent a few hours and came up with a solid degree plan. Yay! I'd love to get input on this plan. A second set of eyes on something is always good. :)

There are some gaps in this plan that I will be filling with classes and the Gerontology ECE (interest in the subject matter).

    Need:
    • 6 psychology elective credits
    • Plus Experimental Psych
    • 3 social science credits -- Does the SS&H CLEP count? If not, I'll need 9cr
    • 0-6 Gen Ed Credits, depending on how many Aleks/ACE courses I pass
    • 2cr free electives -- I passed a 2cr First Aid course, but not sure if it applies.
    • Intro to Business retake or exam to replace my original D grade. This class isn't on the plan yet because I'm not sure where to put it.
    Total needed: 14cr - 20cr.

Degree Plan, TESC, BA in Psychology

    A. English Composition: 6cr total (FULL?)
    CLEP English Comp w/Essay (6?)

    II. Area of Study: Psychology
    A. Required Courses: 9cr total (6 planned)

    CLEP Intro Psychology

    --Need Experimental Psychology

    DSST Fundamentals of Counseling
    SPSCC Abnormal Psychology
    CLEP Human Growth and Development
    CLEP Intro to Educational Psychology
    ECE Research Methods in Psychology
    SPSCC Human Sexuality (Fall 09)

    Free Electives (27)

How come you are not taking any of the TECEP's that TESC offers? I completed a few of those towards my BA in Psych. Once I get home I will dig up my transcripts from TESC and see what I had on mine and compare it with what you have. You could go with PSY 322, TECEP to get your Experimental Psy credit. I will admit though that it was a tough course for me. PSY 211 Developmental Psych and PSY 300 Thanatology were fairly easy courses. They will fit into your program nicely.

Looks like a good plan though. Good luck!

yes, social science and history CLEP counts in social science- it will be 6 credits at the 100 level, so likely in your gen ed social science or gen ed elective section.

    Very cool, thanks Jennifer!

Depending on a lot of other factors (timing, course availability etc), I may not do either, or I may take a TECEP instead. This is just preliminary to get me going and give me some study direction. :)

I worked on the plan to fill in all of the gaps and get a cost estimate. This is assuming that I have the money to complete all exams below and take exams instead of attending Winter Quarter at TESC (or elsewhere).

I took Cory's advice and looked into TECEPs -- they look pretty awesome. :) And, it's a cheap way to knock out my Experimental Psych requirement.

    CLEPs:
    Nat Sci
    CLEP Intro Psychology
    CLEP Human Growth and Development
    CLEP Intro to Educational Psychology
    Social Sciences
    English Comp w/Essay
    Analyzing Lit
    7x$90=$630

    ECEs:
    Research Methods in Psychology
    Gerontology
    Psych/Mental Health Nursing
    3x$250=$750

    DSST/DANTES:
    DSST Fundamentals of Counseling
    $100

    TECEPs:
    Research in Experimental Psychology (PSY-322-TE)
Thanatology: An Understanding of Death and Dying (PSY-300-TE)
Behavior Modification Techniques in Counseling (PSY-339-TE)
    3x$250=$750

Focusing on CLEP, DANTES and FEMA/EMI first to minimize out-of-pocket cost. :) I've started on FEMA, as I want to get 25 of those done this quarter and sent off to TESC for transcripting.

I haven't selected all of my classes for Fall yet, so some of the TECEP/ECEs could go away. I should receive a Pell grant for 09-10, so that makes a course cost the same as an ECE/TECEP exam (just less time involved in an exam vs. course).

Okay, I have taken my preliminary practice tests to see where I'm at with CLEP courses:

    English Comp -- 68
Social Sciences and History -- 62
Intro to Business LAW -- 62
    Human Growth and Development --56
    Intro to Psyc -- 62
    Educational Psychology -- 74
    Natural Sciences -- 58
Analyzing and Interpreting Literature -- 66
    Intro to Soc -- 53
    Info Systems -- 68

I misread that Intro to Business Law would replace my basic Intro to Business course, and now I don't know that to be the case. So I may not take that and take DSST Drug Abuse instead (which would knock out a psyc req. as well).

CLEP English Composition Practice Test 1
    Analyzing Writing 80%
    Identifying Sentence Errors 61%
    Improving Sentences 78%
    Restructuring Sentences 100%
    Revising Works in Progress 85%
Total Score for Multiple-Choice Questions: 80%

My scaled score for this exam would be: 68

Got this practice CLEP exam from:

Thanks to Randell and Ian, I also found out that it was DANTES that offered the Intro to Business exam, so that is back on my table. Woohoo!

Passed Abnormal Psychology with a B and Math in Society with a C+. For a course with zero instruction or guidance, I am amazed and grateful that I passed Math in Society at all!

It makes me more compelled to get as many courses done via testing. As many overall as I can do, I will. I've signed up with Aleks for math and stats classes.

I found out that I pretty much have to take Intro to Psyc, so I am taking that this semester, along with Sociology and Western Civilization 1. So far the semester is going excellent, and I even managed to buy a new computer. :) Life is good. I just have to write at least 3 research papers and ~22 regular-length papers this semester, 10 quizzes and 6 major tests. I'm a busy bee. :D

I got my GRE books as well (couldn't resist). In the next month I'm finally applying for TESC (money is already set aside). Woot!
