BLD, when have I or any other person said that we want to kill someone? From the sound of your post, you're making it sond like Kahn and I are plotting to go and kill Terri Shiavano ourselves. The reasons why I compared you to Ann Coulter is because your responses are so extreme, and judging from your approval, I guess you accept that.

Also, Kahn, why is hell freezing over because you agree with me? I thought you and I shared very similiar ideaologies. Aren't you a centrist?

Yes, I am. My bad. I confused you with someone else.

You mean you wouldn't be willing to do that? Why not? If it is such a merciful act, I would think you'd be more than glad to pull out the feeding tube yourself.

And when did valuing human life become "extreme"? Think about it -- you are arguing for killing a viable human being; I'm arguing against it. I'd be more comfortable on the valuing life side any day of the week.

    BLD

P.S. And yes, I think Ann Coulter is great. If you want to compare me to her I consider it a wonderful compliment.

You know, the same argument can be made that if you truly did value human life, you wouldn't have them suffering mentally or physically for the remainder of their lives, and that the humane thing would be to allow them to die gracefully.

And no, I do not want to pull her feeding tube. I think that if they used som other method, whether it be drugs, or something peaceful, that would be fine, but I am not going to do it, I would rather want a doctor to do it.

Now I'm sure you'll fire back that I would probably be in favor of shoting her out of a cannon or something equally inane, but please keep in mind that I respect human life, and I respect a human's right to life, and a human's right to die.

By the way, BLD, remind me, what is your stance on the dealth penalty again??

PS: Kahn, I thought you did have me mixed up with someone else. No problem.

Then let's line up all the mentally retarded people in the world and shoot them one by one. <---- I know, extremism...but who is to decide who is too far gone mentally and who is not?

Death penalty? Yes. Kill those who have murdered others. Seems pretty consistent to me. And quite the deterent! Those who have experienced the death penalty never murder again.

Good. I too am for the death penalty. I think it's a good deterrent and it is deserving amongst those who have killed others.

Now, just to play devil's advocate...

What is someone had committed a murder and had been sentenced to death. However, while incarcerated, this person develops an injury which leaves them a vegetable, who needs a feeding tube survive, and they had earlier stated in a written document such as a will that asked that he be allowed to die if ever in a situation. What do you do then?????:D

i have mixed feelings about this it shoud be your right to choose wether you want to have your plug pulled, but it should be your right. Did Terry make that decision before she reached this state? How do we know she doesn't want to still live either? Did anyone recently read or hear about the woman that was in a coma for 20 years and woke up? It should be my decision to live or die, not my ex cause they want to move on.

No, she doesn't. This is what the family is giving to the press but everytime an indepentent neurologist has been called in the outcome is the same - sonograms show her brain has atrophied to the point of almost nothing but the cortex remaining. The supposed reponses are twitches and contortions of a dying nervous system.

The sad part is the if the other part of her brain, the one that controls automatic reflexes had been the part to die off no one would have argued with her being brain dead and disconnected.

I would not want to "live" like a house plant.

The person never atvocated killing anyone. They advocated letting a person who is suffering decide if they wanted to end their life.

There is a difference between living with a syndrome or disease and being in a state where life is not worth living.

You don't recover from Down's Syndrome or MS. It is possible in the future that you might recover from MS since it is an autoimmune malfunction but Down's Syndrome is being born with an odd number of choromsomes. With the way genetic research is going it might also be possible to someday prevent this but it is not something you recover from.

Whoa, where the heck are you getting your information? Check all the reports in the Tampa Tribune or St Pete Times. She is not cognizant or able to respond. See the other post.

I like house plants, but I don't want to be one.

This issue is up to the courts to decide. IF Mrs. Shiavo did not make prior arrangements as to what should be done should she reach such a state, then the courts must determine WHO has the authority to make the decision(s) regarding her state. Do her parents or her husband have the final say? Do they have equal say?

I put my trust in the courts to render a proper decision. However, I say this from the outside looking in. My stance may be different if I were actually part of the situation. I can say that I, personally, have never been confronted with such an issue. If I were, my father for instance, has already indicated what he would want to be done.

I prefer to get my information from the medical staff that have examined her. The vast majority disagree with your conclusions.

If you think it is okay to kill Terri, you might already be one.

I will simply add this to the conversation. I live just outside Wichita, KS about 35 miles from Hutchinson, this was and is really big news. Does the story sound familiar!

"For 20 years, Sarah Scantlin has been mostly oblivious to the world around her — the victim of a drunken driver who struck her down as she walked to her car.

Now, after a remarkable recovery, she can talk again and has begun to regain her memory, sending her father "from despair to joy."
