I would love for TTU to get Regional Accreditation! The program and the price looks great... but alas, until they do, I will be looking elsewhere as well...

I would choose Liberty over TTU. RA vs. NA.

    TTU Seeking Regional Accreditation

    Hello all,

I just spoke with a rep. from TTU and they did advise that they were going to be seeking regional accreditation around Spring of 2014 and they expect it to take 4 years to successfully obtain. I am not sure of why the timeline as I am not familiar with that but that is what they are advising. Just FYI---

There are only two statuses: "currently has RA" and "does not currently have RA". It's foolish to make decisions based on the expressed expectations of those in whose interest it is to be optimistic.

For RA agencies (and some NA agencies), there is a third status: "Candidate" or "pre-accredited". If a school achieves official "Candidate" status with an RA agency, then the US Dept. of Education accepts it as "pre-accredited", even if the school is still years away from full RA. The RA agencies don't grant "Candidate" status to a school unless there is a high probability that the school will eventually qualify for full accreditation. For all practical purposes (Federal financial aid, credit transfer), a "Candidate" or "pre-accredited" school is equivalent to a school with full RA.

For example, Claremont Lincoln University (in California) is not (yet) RA, but they did become an official WASC Candidate in 2013. So you will find them listed in the US Dept. of Education database as a "pre-accredited" school.

TTU does not appear to be either RA or an RA Candidate at this time. Note that simply applying for RA does not make a school a "Candidate". A school starts as an "Applicant" and has to go through considerable review to become a "Candidate".

That's true, I can see having some confidence in schools that are that far along in the process. I was thinking more of situations where schools merely announce their intentions or file some initial application. That's what I think should be completely disregarded.

    Hello all,
Just a quick update. I received an update email this morning from one of the administrators of the PhD in Leadership Studies program, "The original plan was to apply for SACS accreditation in June 2014, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen quite that soon. Having said that, I can assure you that it is a top priority under our new administration.

I wish I could give you an exact timeframe, but it would be a guess, and I don’t want to guess. I hope you understand!"

Sooo, it appears that they are set on pursuing accreditation but as Steve indicated, they are still Non-Accredited regionally speaking... It is sad. The program looks great and I have heard nothing but good things from students there... I will just continue to keep them in mind and monitor them for the future. Thanks again to everyone for being so helpful as always!!! You guys are the best!!!

    Alex
