Either Indiana Senator Richard Lugar or former Maine Governor William Cohen would make a good CIA director. Of course, Powell or Rice would be the best choices.
Let's be real.. Most of the heat he has gotten was pure monday morning quarterbacking. It is easy now to point to a piece of evidence and say he should have known what it meant. However, before 9/11 who was to say which of the thousands of pieces of evidence is the real thing? Plus, most of the problems in communications between the FBI and the CIA are statutory and were put in place by the very same members of Congress who are now huffing and puffing about incompetence. Then, the CIA gets get pilloried for reading "too much" into the WMD evidence. Everybody forgets the times something works and keys on the mistakes. I believe he is quitting for personal reasons, I would have bailed long ago instead of listening to the carping from the cheap seats. Hope he can get on and enjoy the rest of his life.
Re: Let's be real.. Reminds me of a recent bit in the Onion: "Is the FBI doing enough to prevent the July 19 attacks?" -=Steve=-
Hi Jimmy, William Cohen is not a former governor. He was a representative, a senator and Secretary of Defense during the Clinton administration.
More Resignations More resignations are coming! Tenet's deputy will announce tomorrow that he will also resign.
Chalabis is pleased ....... And Dr. Ahmad Chalabi is said to be very happy about Tenet's fall. The story is here.
Dubya doesn't have to resign, he will be gone in November. Besides, better Dubya than Draft Dodger Cheney.
