Hi, has anyone taken the final comprehensive exam at AMU for the MBA? I need to know what this statement means - "IF YOU DO NOT TAKE THE COMP EXAM BY THE END OF THE COURSE, YOU WILL RECEIVE A FAILING GRADE FOR THE EXAM, WHICH CAN NOT BE REPLACED BY A RETAKE".

I actually do not understand what they mean by "BY THE END OF THE COURSE". Does that mean if I completed my course requirements by say 29 December 2013, I must take the exam not later than 6 January 2014 (of course with the 8 week timeline allotted for it)

First, please make sure you get an answer to this question from the professor in your comps class. Second, I've taken the AMU MBA comps, and what this means is that you have to take the exam before the end of the 8 week comps course. I took it in early 2011, so things might have changed, but when I was there the comps exam was structured like an 8 week course, with some review materials available and optional prep assignments to help you get ready. You could take the exam anytime after the third or fourth week, if I recall correctly. Again, please confirm this with your professor to be sure. Finally, best of luck to you. The exam is a lot of writing and it will be somewhat stressful, but just remind yourself that when it's over, it's over. Congrats on being at the precipice of completing your degree. Now go study and take the final step!

I just took the MBA comps last month. They are structured like an 8 week course. You get a grade of Fail, Pass or Pass with Distinction. First you take the multiple choice test that represents a small part of your grade. 18% I believe. Then you have to do a couple optional practice questions with forum board posts. They are 10% of your grade. Finally you do your essays. They are the lions share of your grade. You must complete all of the essays before the last day of the 8 week course.

Some hints for the essays. Only use peer reviewed sources. Journal articles and text books. Anything else you can use but they don't count towards the minimum. Watch your APA formatting. They seem to be pretty tough on that.

    Good luck!
