First of all, I’m really glad I found this forum! I’m quite sure I will need all the support I can get as I work towards a degree.

My name is Rebecca and I will be starting my college degree from scratch. Well, almost, I recently earned 6 traditional credits. But “Going” to college in the traditional sense of the word is just not working well for me. Between my lifestyle and my learning style, I think I will be better off studying independently, taking exams for credit and completing online classes as needed.

There is a wealth of information on this forum and on the web about earning distance degrees. I would be lying if I said “I’m not overwhelmed one bit!” I’m overwhelmed by lots of bits. It seems I almost need a degree in order to sort out how to get a degree. Sigh, one day at time, take deep breaths and chew the elephant one bite at a time. I’ll just keep repeating that.

I would like to earn the Bachelors Degree with a major in Literature. I’ve downloaded some information from Excelsior and am trying to use that as a planning tool. I’ve got the proficiency exam checklist also. I know I can study and take clep exams, dantes exams and there is a subject exam for GRE in literature. My biggest concern is making sure that I don’t duplicate too many tests, but then again perhaps I shouldn’t worry about that and just try to get a lot done (test wise that is).

Anyway, I just wanted to pop in with an introduction. Wish me luck and I will be around.

Hi Rebecca - Welcome to degreeinfo! It sounds like to know what you want and how to go about getting it. Good for you. If you happen to need to pick up a course you might look at LSU. The cost is low and the course can be accelerated or decelerated depending on your needs. Let us know if we can help answer any questions.
