They lost me with the title. Trump supporters use of "deep state" to mean "anyone who doesn't support Trump" renders the term about as meaningful as "covfefe".

I use the phrase "deep state" to refer to the career government employees who fill government offices from administration to administration. When that government-employee class (especially those in the police and spy agencies) become politicized, when they attempt to subvert the electoral process before elections and then practice what they call "resistance" afterwards, this country faces what might arguably be the greatest threat to the future of its democracy that it's ever faced in its nearly 250 year history.

That's not what "deep state" meant a few years ago. It was a lot more X-Files back then.

The term "deep state" seems to have multiple meanings. There seems to be two infrastructures:
    • Deep state politicians and the military-industrial complex that profits off continuous wars. The United States has basically been at war since WWII (non-stop). It's a money-making industry. A lot of Congressmen have made a lot of money by keeping the military-industrial complex operational with tax dollars for several decades. As an example, there are missiles that cost in the millions (with developmental costs). Just imagine the profit in manufacturing thousands of them.
    • There is allegedly another root that many call conspiratorial i.e. un-elected CIA officials funded by tax dollars that Congress is not allowed to know about in detail (which is unConstitutional) running unConstitutional operations overseas. That's just the tip of the alleged iceberg - and President Donald J. Trump is reportedly aware of it - and is reportedly dismantling it. If it boils down to an in-house fight-for-control between military intel and CIA intel, then the military is unequivocally Constitutional, while many of the CIA black ops have reportedly been operating outside of the Constitution for many years. The creation and development of the CIA is somewhat new, whereas the military is written into and supported by the Constitution.

I love how rightist conspiracy theories are now indistinguishable from the leftist ones.
