Has anyone here completed any course work at St. Stephen's in Edmonton, Alberta (or know anything about them)? http://www.ualberta.ca/ST.STEPHENS/

I am seriously considering their Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.) program. There are residential requirements, however a majority of this program may be completed at a distance. There is a great degree of latitude in the curriculum that will allow me to orient my studies to the prison ministry (an area of ministry that seems to be ignored by most seminaries). http://www.ualberta.ca/ST.STEPHENS/sc2-mts.htm

My background: Earned RA bachelor's and master's degrees (in criminal justice and public administration, respectively). Police experience in the military and 5+ years as a probation officer in California.

St. Stephen's is currently a candidate for ATS accreditation... Portions of their Self-Study are posted on thier web site. http://www.ualberta.ca/ST.STEPHENS/ss-acred.htm

My goal for the future is to begin graduate studies in theology while on active duty with the USAF and transfer then transfer the degree to a residential M.Div. program near home (hopefully not losing too many credits in the move).

Excessive tuition cost and my unpredictable work-travel schedule are issues as to why I don't begin work at one of the local seminaries.

    Thank you in advance!

I have not taken any course work from St. Stephen's. However, I have looked rather closely at their programs. They offer some very interesting concentrations in various (as you've observed) neglected fields of study. They seem quite credible. If you are convinced that you can abide their theological stance, this looks like it could be a very promising option.

    CL:

Thanks for the response. Their curriculum is "open" to the extent that I can use it to satisfy my "requirements" for knowledge...

The only issue that remains to be resolved is the theological compatability... I've printed off the material from the UCC site and will go over it this weekend.

    Thanks again,
