Why would anyone write such a caustic remark such as this?

After reviewing this and some of your other posts?

    Uh........ not too much really.

I never can get that straight.

True. But I think that you have to pay them an additional $99 fee for a 24-hour evaluation.

    Here's their entire "fast-track" Ph.D. program:

    http://saintregis.edu.lr/fasttrack_worldpay.html

Since they guarantee that applicants will be evaluated in 24 hours, apparently all that the evaluators have to go on when deciding if you merit a "GAAP" "RA-equivalent" degree is what you write on this little online form.

Until recently they also guaranteed that every applicant would qualify for at least one degree. But now they have modified the wording, adding that they might reject some applicants with a refund of the $99 "fast-track" fee.

Hey! Don't laugh! They are tightening up their standards!

Does anyone else find it odd (and/or offensive) that distancedegree.edu.pk, a site apparently operated from Pakistan, prominently features the World Trade Center in their logo?

    What happend?

As some of our Canuck members "might say": "What happend to our Paki friends, ah?"

www.distancedegree.edu.pk now says: "We are currently upgrading our forum. Please check back shortly!"

I didn't notice that, though their host is in California.

    When I checked just now:

"Your non-refundable payment of $99 will GUARANTEE:
    ...
    2. Qualification for at least one degree or certificate.

Important: Payment of $99 is non-refundable (unless you do not qualify for any degree).

If your assessment determines that you do not qualify for any degree or certificate, your $99 will be refunded in full."*

So...is this a guarantee or not? I'm almost tempted to find out, but it IS $99. And why is the page titled "Order Page", instead of "Assessment Page"? Maybe there's a message there...

I think they're discovering that they're not nearly as slick as they thought they were. :p

  9. To All,

The time has come that I have to bid farewell to this group of people whom, within this very brief period of time, I grew to like and enjoy my exchanges with.

But, what touched me most, on a personal level, was my brief communication with Dr Bear (I wish there was more). It brought back to my mind the first time I read one of his books. Oh, that was back in the seventies. It was really a life saver. I was at the time a young university drop-out wandering aimlessly from hippy commune to rock concert and other "cool" things we had back in the seventies. I had behind me four years of full-time university studies, but no degree and no hope of getting one under my, then, current circumstances.

Dr Bear's book marked the turning point in my life, as it has marked the turning point in the lives of many.

I won't respond to any of you in this post as I noticed that the contents of your posts have lost their initial momentum which made them interesting to me. So, you're currently forced to keep regurgitating the same things and routines over and over again.

The only thing that I must say is that, if you noticed, I never attempted to abuse your hospitality in any of my posts by trying to promote SRU. I referred to SRU only in response to questions. I hope you appreciate that. So, I expect you will permit me at this stage to make a simple statement about my university.

A small group of dedicated individuals with a vision and a mission started, only months ago, a vigorous process of thorough restructuring of the entity called St. Regis University. This process is not complete yet. A lot more needs to be done. But what we're aiming to is total integrity and quality, and we will achieve it.

Our vision has three stages. First stage is to make SRU one of the good universities of its kind (that's already been achieved); the second, to make SRU one of the better universities of its kind and; the third, to make SRU one of the best universities of its kind. And that will come to pass.

I personally believe that in this process some of our supposed enemies (that means you guys, ha, ha, ha) will prove to be our best friends. Some of your criticism, although very vindictive at times, may point out possible faults and deficiencies to us which need to be fixed. What is somehow off-putting is that some of your comments are not really objective criticism. It's just repeating over and over again certain irrelevancies which have become cliches for you guys. And you seem to enjoy that. It may be, methinks, a sort of a bonding process that works well for your group. A kind of well-established, by now, ritual. I don't know, but I don't personally mind.

Jeff's and some other people's type of criticism is of the more productive kind. It doesn't matter whether I agree or not with Jeff's comments, his type of incisive criticism is appreciated.

That's it then. I'll see you, or at least some of you, at the distancedegree.edu.pk. Thank you for your hospitality. It's been great fun.

    My best wishes to all.

    John S. Dovelos

Must be a tough business. Require people to actually do work for a degree and you instantly lose all the lazy and stupid people.

Are they actually trying to legitimize St Regis by spinning off the sales operations to other related schools? Too much baggage.

Why do I get the feeling that we will be seeing John again?

Maybe it has something to do with this:

    Well that explains it…

Wasn't that the sixties? In the seventies, didn't he wear a leisure suit?

I doubt script-writer Nicholas Meyer had the Mormons in mind, but this bit of dialogue has found its way into a list of "Mainstream Science Fiction and Fantasy with Latter-day Saint (Mormon) Characters and References": http://www.adherents.com/lit/sf_lds3.html

Since you work for them, won't that cause a problem with your boss?

I hope that you succeed assuming that "of its kind" means distance learning institutions. Unfortunately, "of its kind" currently means roaring degree for SRU and if that is what you meant then I hope that you end up rotting in jail for running a fraudulent business.

    Cheers,

Guys, guys, guys, guys................same as Louis has stated, I am also lurking and reading the posts as a newcomer, but really - this show now sounds like two 8-year old boys fighting over who gets the biggest piece of candy. Yes it is, no it isn't; yes you are, no you are not; yes I can prove, no you can't...........Surely we have better and more educated aspects to differ about and/or discuss than what has been the case on this forum over the past couple of days?

My understanding of this forum is that it should be a place where intelligent, logic and understandable threads are posted; not to turn it into a circus where Bruce has to keep on warning people.

If you have a quibble or personal criticism with someone, why not post a personal e-mail to him or her and leave it out of the forum. A lot of what has been posted definitely does not augur well with all of our collective intelligence and thought abilities.

Really, to state on this forum outright to someone that he/she is a fraud is just not on. We are all intelligent adults and that is not the way to do it. Whether that person is or isn't a fraud is one's own view or opinion and that is something that can be continued via personal e-mails.

Let's not clutter this forum with childish push-and-pull fights. Let's stick to positive criticism if we want to differ.

I suppose some of you out there would think that I have some nerve, being a newcomer, to post this opinion of mine, but so be it and I apologise if I have offended anyone in doing so, but I really deem it necessary to post it.

    Regards,

    Len.

I guess I don't get your point? If you are saying people shouldn't post unless they add something to the discussion, what exactly have you added? Another opinion?

Let's bring this back to reality. SRU is a degree mill that sells degrees for money with no work. There is no school of any kind there. None. It is an illegal business based on fraud. Any talk of making it a real school is smoke. If you want to throw away money, I would be glad to print you off a nice new Ph.D. on my inkjet printer, just be sure to let the ink dry.
