    the company they keep

That UNESCO page does not seem to have been constructed with much care. A quick look at the other places listed on the page http://www.unesco.org/education/portal/e_learning/Higher_Education/Interesting_Sites/English/ shows that it includes:

Irish International University, whose recognizing bodies include "Christhomas Consortium London," EQAC (Educational Quality Accrediting Commission), and the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE). As I recall, these accrediting bodies all seem to look favorably on various online enterprises associated with 6Dr. Richard J. Hoyer.

    Here is UNESCO's disclaimer:
Clearly this is not a ringing endorsement of Saint Regis University by UNESCO.

    UNESCO list

The UNESCO/IAU site holds a "Universities of the World-- the Complete List" link at http://www.unesco.org/iau/world-universities/. The list of Liberian universities contains four schools:
Saint Regis, Robertstown, James Monroe, and so forth are not listed.

Thomas Edison State College and University of Maryland University College do appear in the U.S. section so it would seem that this list does not exclude schools with a distance learning focus.

Didn't some gentlemen assure us last year that SRU would be listed by UNESCO? I seem to recall them even disparaging someone else that said they'd heard differently. I might be mistaken because why would someone try to build a facade of legitimacy over a degree mill?

SRU not listed? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you! What's next, Oxford? Harvard? Slippery Rock State U.? Oh, the humanity.... ;)

You know, if I was a graduate of St. Regis University, I would be sending it an email every day asking why it don't sue all of these people who call it a degree mill. Conversely, SRU could choose a couple of the loudest detractors and sue them. After all, its contention is that it is not a degree mill.

Such things are usually proven fairly easily. Granted, SRU may have its own reasons for not wanting to be in a court of law.

Whether the UNECO/IHU list means anything or not is not for me to say. But it is interesting to look at the colleges listed in Hawaii (or not)

    Hawaii
    Argosy University Honolulu
    Chaminade University of Honolulu
    Hawaii Pacific University
    University of Hawaii at Manoa

    And Wyoming

    Wyoming
    Northwest College
    University of Wyoming

I would have posted the California list, but it is too extensive.

AACRAO registrars' convention, Las Vegas, Wed.

St. Regis seems to be topic A here. It seems safe to suggest that it is the laughingstock of the world of registrars and admissions officers, but people are horrified, too. Galanga's "head transplant" photos being used in presentations (not by me, yet, but I may). Overflow crowds for Allen Ezell's degree mill talk (he featured St. Regis and the Romanian thing). Similarly at the official AACRAO "Fraudbusters" presentation. I do my main one Thursday and they've given me the biggest hall (300+) based on signups.

I am reluctant to post a lot of the things I've learned, since the St. Regis people read this forum as well, but there is a fair amount of encouraging news, along with a few scary things.

    More later.

I would really enjoy some news about some of these academic frauds running around scamming people facing some potential hard time. I guess for now I'll have to satisfy myself by believing that they may be smart enough to be worried. ;)

Interestingly enough Berne University appears to be listed in UNESCO's Handbook. I thought they were on their way out??
