They are PhDs not LLD or DLit.

Sell honourary degrees - I doubt there would be any real schools willing to lose credibility by doing so.

I wonder whether "honorary" is in the text or in lettering the same size as the degree title?

Dr Bear has written, "It is very rare nowadays to give the Ph.D. as an honorary degree." Nonetheless, Google finds 1400 instances of "honorary PhD" -- and even some instances of "honorary MD", conferred by legitimate schools.

I can't find the reference now, but I thought Dr Bear had reported that an RA college began to advertise honorary degrees for sale, but had to stop because of the stink it raised. I did find Dr Bear saying, "The least-expensive honorary doctorate about which I have certain knowledge would have cost the buyer a $50,000 'donation.' This from a regionally accredited and highly respectable university in California."

Here's another version of the fasttrack page, this time for "earned" (as opposed to honorary) degrees:

    http://saintregis.edu.lr/fasttrack_worldpay.html

Compared to the August 2003 version described in the thread below, this page is now considerably sanitized:

    http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9019&perpage=30&pagenumber=4

The wayback machine gives no hits for this particular page.

Wow, a third-person reference to me, in a forum where I haven't posted for a while. I guess I'm moving up in the world.

Shite, Mark, they've mentioned little ole me and I've never ever posted there baruch haShem. When you're famous, you're famous. Maybe someday there will be a DL walk of fame in Monrovia and we can all go put our handprints and stars in the sidewalk.
Or maybe not. Maybe it'll be in Harper.

Maybe they would want a lock of your hair for the Monrovia Education Hall of Fame. Not too close to the lock from Hoyer's dyejob, could start flames.

Heck, I've never posted there either....

Probably, because I don't have time since I am employed in my second career, volunteer at two fraternal organization, serve on a public body, am active politically, study and have a family to take care of. His opinion is less than worthless.

Hi friends, Good wishes from Puerto Rico

This is very interesting. Some one has to call to East Carolina University, and start to do some questions to the Admissions Department.

I think that maybe they accept the student because St. Regis is chartered by Liberia Government and is operating legally under the Law.

Lol. "Roy" is just another person who doesn't understand even the very basics of accreditation and university legitimacy. I wouldn't be surprised to find he attends or is employed by the worst of worst degree mills.

I think it's more likely that they're going through the university's documented procedures that apply when a surprise like this turns up, and they've removed information from the web site to quiet things down while the administration sorts this out.

They are certainly well-informed of the nature of SRU by now and also understand that they must act within the university's guidelines when addressing the question of what to do.

There really aren’t that many. Some of the links refer to the same people, some aren’t really faculty, and some of the links are to newsletters that announce the doings of alumni. I counted three actual faculty members.

Bill Eydler, tennis coach for King’s College and St. Regis faculty member, is well known to DegreeInfo members. He shilled for St. Regis on this forum (under the name BE10sCoach) until his identity was exposed (see here). Ruth Moore teaches martial arts at the Fitness Center for Lifelong Learning of the University of Maine at Macchias, but it is unlikely that she was hired on the basis of her degree as she claims a M.S. in Social Science from Saint Regis.

The third individual, Dr. Yanni Zafiropoulos Zack, is a bit more troubling, as he seems to have a fair degree of involvement with distance education. Dr. Zack appears on the faculty lists of Walden University and Irvine College and also lays claim to positions with Cal State Dominguez Hills and Nova Southeastern University. He was discussed previously on this forum in this thread.

What I don’t understand is why these individuals can’t seem to leave well enough (well, I guess it depends on your perspective) alone. For example, although Bill Eydler does not list his St. Regis Ph.D. in Theocentric Business and Ethics (see here), he does list his Doctorate in Physical Education Administration from Saint Regis, and he is now proudly announcing that he is going to be “awarded an Honorary Doctor of Public Service from Ansted University, British Virgin Islands of UK.” Not to be outdone, Dr. Zack, in addition to claiming a Ph.D. in Education from Saint Regis University (2001), also claims an Ed.D. in Special Education from Americus University (2002).

He's posted very little to this forum, and I don't think any of his posts could be construed as "shilling".

  17. I remember him....

I remember Bill Eydler too - he was the guy who sort of got off track on one of his posts and brought up this dislike of John Bear, out of context. Though his thought process was not clear, I didn't realize that disagreeing with or not liking John Bear qualified as "shilling". I stand corrected.

I don’t think that Mr. Zack doctorate from SRU is acknowledged by Walden University. In the faculty profile page, he is listed as Mr. Zack rather than Dr. Zack but other faculty members with authentic doctorates are listed with their appropriate titles of Dr. With a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from RA colleges, Mr. Zack is obviously qualified to teach for Nova and Cal. State.

Irvine Valley College (in Irvine CA) and Irvine University (in Cerritos CA) are two different colleges. Irvine University, where Mr. Zack is employed is not accredited by WASC. It’s not RA. In addition to listing his PhD in Education from SRU, Irvine University also listed his Ed.D. in Special Education from Americus University (another degree). It’s appalling but Irvine University is not RA. Irvine University (in Cerritos California) is not accredited by Western Association of Colleges and Schools (Senior Colleges) and WASC (Junior Colleges) . It appears that you are confusing accredited Irvine Valley College (a legitimate junior college) with unaccredited Irvine University. Irvine University is a state (California) authorized school.

Dr. Okonkwo, you are, of course, correct. The late hour, coupled with the vagaries of cut-and-paste, account for my mislabeling of the link. There is no entity known simply as Irvine College; I meant to say Irvine University. The link I provided, however, does takes you to the correct Web site.

I guess it depends on your definition of shilling. Bill Eydler came to this forum to surreptitiously foment discussion of his alma mater and employer. In his first post he disingenuously asked, concerning Dr. Hoyer, “What's the scoupe [sic] on this gentleman, who seems to be very important at Saint Regis?” In his second post, he asked if the verification services and accreditation services listed on the St’ Regis Web site were valid organizations. Although I see no evidence of him having been provoked, his third post he used to cast aspersions on Dr. Bear’s character.

If he was truly just seeking information, why did he high-tailed it out of here as soon as his true identity and affiliation were exposed? The individual posting here as BE10sCoach’s behavior was consistent with the way my dictionary defines the term “shill.”
