I am looking for a totally distance learning program that will offer a Masters in Religion or Masters in Divinity with a very reasonable cost per credit. Does anyone know if such exists? Thanks.

Hi Howard - I'm afraid that the distinction between Masters in Religion, Divinity and Theology is lost on me so please excuse me if I'm off target. There is a DL Masters in Theology at Charles Sturt. You can do it either by research or by coursework. Otherwise, I can only suggest the usual suspects from South Africa - Potch, UNISA and Zululand (I read that their site is back up). As you're probably aware, the Australian degree will typically less expensive that its American equivalent and the South African degrees will be cheaper still. There are others on the forum who can give you some details about the programs at Potch and Zululand. To my knowledge there is no one posting here who is currently attending UNISA. Good luck,
    Jack

Unizul does offer an MA in Biblical Studies. My understanding is the prerequisite is an undergrad degree in that area.

    Best of "luck"

I am looking for this for a couple of associates --- they need a taught Masters since they don't have a strong background in theology. Thanks for all the input.

    Howard,

Perhaps you might check out Coolamon College in Australia.

Their taught MA in Theological Studies is quite inexpensive, and is awarded through the Sydney College of Divinity.

    www.coolamon.org

There is also a taught master's in Biblical Theology available through the University of the Free State in South Africa. I'm not sure about the entry requirements. However, this program is available on a non-resident basis to students throughout the world.

    www.uovs.ac.za

You might also check out the programs available through the departments of Church history and Old Testament at the University of Pretoria. These also are available on a wholly non-resident basis.

    www.up.ac.za

There is also the Centre for Christian Spirituality in Australia, which offers the taught MATS on a wholly non-resident basis at a very inexpensive rate. Like Coolamon, this institution is affiliated with the Sydney College of Divinity. Sorry, not sure about their web address.

That's what I can think of for right now. I'll add more later if any come to mind.
