A small victory in the global war against terrorism?

    I'd say "yes!"

    Thanks.

Let me quickly add, though, that the road to the world's many disastrously bombed-out hells are paved with good intentions, pervasive mistrust (mostly political in nature) - and broken promises.

The proof of the pudding (of this promised IRA disarmament and peaceful co-existence) will surely lie in the preparation of the oven, the baking, and the eating (..... of the peace cake or the smoking of that peace pipe!)

On a related and positive note:

The potential for disarming the IRA and its accompanying disavowing of violence as a tool for political change will have an impact, maybe a significant one, on the global war against terrorism.

No more IRA-inspired bombings and authorities' reprisals? Good! Yes, a victory indeed.

By extension: All mass-casualty terrorist acts or bombings, from now on (hopefully, there will be zero to none or very, very few of those) can most assuredly be attributed to the jihadist, Al-qaeda-inspired or controlled criminals and the like?

At least, we can, now or in the immediate future, hopefully separate senseless violence perpetrated in the name of protestantism/catholicism from senseless violence perpetrated by anti-US/anti-Western values, jihadist, ostensibly mostly-Muslim-inspired post 9/11 terrorism (specifically, suicide bombings and mass killings of persons military or not).

And if we do - or can - what possible benefit accrues therefrom, to world peace and peaceful co-existence of Western and non-western cultures and religions?

Can or must I/we expect the criminal Al-qaeda to make a similar peace and disarmament declaration?

If not, why not? everything is possible, right?

Someone, please wake me up ....... if I happen to be currently ensconsed in a hopeless, dream-away world of wishful-thinking .....

    Thanks.

I wouldn’t think so. This is probably a strategy that, they think, will yield better results. They are not doing this because they think resorting to violence was wrong. And, don´t forget, they have $50 million they stole ready in case they need to change strategies again......

No, Al Qaeda is more an ideology than an organization. I doubt they will ever do that. Terrorism is defeated, not appeased, nor negotiated.

"The world faces one threat ......"

Even for the often irascible, predictably duplicitous and sometimes disingenious, Aljazeera (Arabic language) Newspaper, the anti-terrorism item below offers a glimmer of hope and reason.

"With recent attacks on London and then Egypt, in which dozens of innocent civilians lost their lives, it seems that the world is facing one threat, the threat of “terrorism”, it is not coming from certain religion or race, nor is it targeting certain religion or race."

    Caution & Disclaimer:

Some items on the site cited above are viciously (even if under-handedly) un-American, anti-West and anti-Israel. By citing this item FYI, I am not endorsing, by any stretch of the imagination, this Newspaper as an unbiased or even mostly reasonable news or commentary source.

It is important to note, though, that the vast majority of the world's Arabs and/or Muslims admittedly and openly oppose terrorism and terroristic acts.

    Thanks.

Well, I read that 30% of Muslims supports in any way (actively or ideologically) that Al Qaeda franchise operation, which means that 70% of them don´t. In fact, Muslims are the main victims of this nonsense.

A recently released Rand study found that, in Northern Ireland, a force of approx. 200 to 400 IRA gunmen have kept tens of thousands of British troops busy with maintaining order in NI for decades.

Two to four hundred Irishmen against 10,000+ troops.

How many Sunni insurgents do you think there are active in Iraq?
    I'll bet it's way more than 400.:(
