Have you checked out their bulletin board? Perhaps you could contact a few students directly?-or even ask UWW for student contacts?

Is Skidmore College an assessment school like TESC, COSC, and Excelsior? Their UWW programs seems to have no limit on the number of credits you can transfer. They mention you have to atleast do a "final project", but thats all I kind find out. Anyone else know a little more about this college?

  5. SKidmore's program is top notch. As I recall, it is largely based on independent study as opposed to "portfolio credit" as, say, TESC would define it (based on previous knowledge that you document).

When I was seeking an undergrad program, I visited several schools before deciding on TESC, and SKid more wa one of them - I actually went to a prospectives student meeting on the campus at Saratoga Springs, the only time I was at such a meeting when the refreshments included beer (on which I passed). Perhaps that's one of teh reasons Lisa Birnbach (author of The Preppy Handbook) called Skid more one of the ultimate party schools.

I do remember the presenter's answer to the typical question, "Howlong will it take me to earn a degree through UWW?" It was something like, "Well, you enroll and do your work. Then, when you think you're ready and we think you're ready, you graduate."

At the time, I thought the response was pure bullshit, and preferred the down-and-dirty approach of TESC - a specific number of credits, with a specific distribution requirement, using specific methodologies, etc. I now understand the Skidmore response, but still feel it was far too abstract for someone new to the system (as I was at the time).

In terms of quality, however, would I recommend SKidmore? Absolutely. They're much higher priced than the alternatives, but that's what you get with a prestigious school (and Skidmore is prestigious). With that, a caveat - since you would deal directly with Skidmore faculty, I would only recommend the school if you can physically go there occasionally to meet with your advisors. As a long-distance program, there are better options.

    Steve,

thanks alot for the info! I understand it is expensive, however, I don't see (considering there is no minimum amount of credits you take at the school itself) how it can be that expensive doing this particular program (UWW)? Do they nail you with a 20K "final project" fee or something?? :D

I emailed an advisor and asked a few questions, maybe he'll answer back sometime soon and I will find out a little more.

    Best Regards,
    Bill

    miore...

They do accept CLEP and DANTES exams--both certifiably inexpensive.
