    Re: Supplementary on Self Interest

    1991? Or 1776?

Tom: "liberal equivalent to Original Sin".

Love it, love it, love it!

Yes Smith did origionally publish in 1776, same year as his mentor; Hume died. Unfortunately the copy I quoted from was published in 1991 by Liberty Fund (a very Conservative publisher.) If I had the 1776 edition I might be tempted by some laissez-faire of my own down at Christies.

It has been great fun but now I must get on with my essay, though I liked the joke about knowing when you have won an argument against a liberal.

I agree with Kristie. I don't think dyslexia is an issue. Roy only mispelled one word (looked like he just typed wrong it happens). Someone busted his chops about that one mispelling and he posted the dyslexia message with several words with letters mixed around. After that, his spelling was good. He pushing buttons, folks. Lay this trolling session to rest.

PS Don't bother calling me a bigot (I'm not). I think you are ALL equally worthless!! :)D JK)

Q: How do you know when you've won a debate with a conservative?

A: They call you a liberal.

I always find the childish namecalling that you liberals and conservatives, republicans and democrats, use quite amusing. Almost as if it actually meant something.

I concur (the fact that I lean toward the right notwithstanding).

....he is at least as qualified to be the senator from Ohio as Mr. Schwarzeneggar is to be governor of California.

In terms of qualifications, Springer has a B.A. in Poli-Sci, a J.D., was an aide to RFK, city council member, mayor of Cincinnati, and actually ran for governor of Ohio........Schwarzenegger really pales in comparison.

Anybody catch that recent news clip in which Arnold couldn't remember the name of the current California governor?

Arnold's "advisors" must be delirious. After all, they will surely be the ones actually running the state.

(Want to know something really creepy? I actually typed this very same joke as a response, but ended up cancelling it.)

This is an impressive resume; I'd forgotten about most of it.
Yeah, but he's got a more diverse resume than most folks would credit him for: a B.A. in business and international economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1980), nearly fourteen years as chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (1980-1993), author of seven books that were most likely not ghostwritten (though they were all fitness-related), and a brief stint in the Austrian Army, along with the fact that he's fluent in at least two languages. This is, of course, his movies and bodybuilding titles aside. Not saying that any of this necessarily qualifies him to be governor, but I think his muscle-bound frame and thick accent probably create the impression that he's a lot less intelligent than he actually is.

    Cheers,

Besides, I don't think an inability to remember Gray Davis' name is at all unusual.

I can think of worse candidates than either Springer or Schwarzenegger. Both are fairly thoughtful when they are not doing their shtik.

z.B.: Whatever happened to Eddie Munster?

    Dennis Kucinich.

Yes, But Arnold has no major scandals behind him that I can recall. Springer had that unfortunate incident where it was found he was, ummm....availing himself of the services of lady escorts when he was Mayor of Cincinnati. He may have used city money for it, I can't remember, but either way it's sure to be an issue if he does run.

    I don't know, I've never seen it done. :D

I'm kidding, but it is the usual tactic in my experience when debating a liberal, especially on an issue that really resonates with the public like the death penalty, welfare reform, dealing with the homeless problem, etc., that when they're backed into a logical corner, they're sure to call you racist/intolerant/divisive or some other hot-button label to take the attention off their argument, or lack of one.

I don't have an opinion on Schwarzenegger, but nobody pales in comparison to Davis. Look at the state of California.

UW-Superior, actually (although I'm sure Madison would like to claim him as an alum), and I believe he earned the degree via DL.

....and he graduated from Stanford before getting his J.D. from Columbia Law, for the love of God! Maybe the less education, the better.........in terms of holding public office, at least. I mean, Jesse Ventura didn't exactly torpedo the great State of Minnesota or anything.

Yep. However, I think he just held a seat on the council at the time........still bad, though.

Re using city money, shouldn't he have gotten bids for that?:D

I can also think of a far worse candidate: Gray Davis.
