I was looking at the Academic Programs page on the SCUPS website today and found most of their doctoral degree programs were gone. Of the several doctoral or professional degrees they had listed up until yesterday only the PsyD and JD are listed on its website. Anyway, this prompted me to call this morning and ask SCUPS why their Ph.D., ScD and DBA programs are no longer listed. One of their admissions people replied today that SCUPS will no longer be offering the PhD, ScD and DBA degrees. Instead they are suggesting students interested in such programs look into the RA Northcentral University (NCU).

Sounds like a case of not competing with an associate company, plus an indication of contemplating another crack at DETC accreditation.

Very interesting news. I spoke with them at their offices over the summer and they seemed to be diligently seeking to go for accreditation. This must be the case.
I was enrolled briefly in the DBA with them a few months ago and the coursework seemed very consuming and demanding. Had to removed myself from this pursuit as I just do not have the time to commit to a DBA at this time. Would like to though at some point.

Had to pop in at degreeinfo and see what is brewing here.

I was also enrolled in NCU's DBA program as well a few months ago, and I can at least say that SCUps seemed as vigorous as NCU's. Just thought I would share.

Does anyone think SCUPs current degree programs are solid enough for RA? They do look rather rigorous on the website.

I was thinking about the SCUPS SciD or DBA just based on cost and not needing RA or NA accreditation. What are my options now ?

    thanks

I notice that only SCUPS psychology PhD is listed for use in Oregon according to the ODA. I wonder if this also applies to the PsyD. Although my thought is no otherwise it too would be listed.
I am not so sure Scups will be eligible for accreditation from the DETC even after elimination their PhD programs. Although DETC is getting ready to start offering doctoral degrees, it has not even started their pilot program yet. If they are looking to WASC for accreditation, that may be another whole issue.

SCUPS and NCU are both in administrative chaos. SCUPS is in danger of losing state approval. No chance in hell of ever getting DETC. Now that Dr. Bear is working for the BPPVE the SCUPS administration is in full panic mode. They know that the jig will be up soon.

Now that SACS has lowered the boom on AICU for its problems (\"program content, full-time faculty, integrity of students\' academic records, and admissions policies, as well as noncompliance with standards such as governance, and administrative structure, and institutional effectiveness\") it\'s just a matter time before WASC clamps down on NCU for the very same reasons. They are playing a shell game to confuse the regulators.

What are you basing the NCU claims on? Do you have facts?

Today i just received a mail from SCUPS.

    WASC?

There is one major flaw WASC does not accredit NCU. NCU is accredited by NCA(Higher Learning Commision).

This is mere speculation at this point by the poster.

    Re: WASC?

You are the one with the flaw, geography major. SCUPS is located in Santa Ana, California, in WASC territory. Remember how WASC told Touro International to get accredited or leave town? They were running their California operation under their Middle States accreditation. Same deal here. NCU is running their entire operation out of Santa Ana. No speculation, this is a fact. People on the inside will confirm if you take the trouble to ask instead of playing with your Rand McNally.

    You said:

"\'s just a matter time before WASC clamps down on NCU for the very same reasons." (sic)

NCU is run from Arizona, not California. WASC cannot "clamp down" on an Arizona school. It is located physically in Prescott. There is now separate ownership for SCUPS and NCU.

WASC didn't "clamp down" on Touro International, either. Middle States did. Middle States told TUI they should seek accreditation from the regional accreditor with jurisdiction over the place from which TUI operates, California. WASC was very accommodating to TUI, as was Middle States in the past.

Your facts are wrong. Your tone is insulting. Your posts are few. Welcome.

No, your facts are wrong and your tone is insulting. Unfortunately, your posts are voluminous, apparently an attempt to substitute quantity for lack of quality. Are you claiming that NCU does not operate out of the SCUPS office in Santa Ana? As usual, you are attempting to mask your lack of knowledge with personal attacks. Once again you prove that all bluster and no research makes for ignorant commentary. Ask your buddy Bear if Hecht is not on the BPPVE radar. (And would he tell you the truth?)

Let it go. They are just words. :)

Okay, you got an ad hominem dig in. It's fun to do every once in a while, if it can be done tactfully.

That was also my understanding. This is what I got from the NCU website:
    • Northcentral University
      505 W. Whipple St.,
      Prescott, AZ 86301-1747
      888-327-2877 or 866-776-0331
NCU and SCUPS were once owned by the same person, but from what I understand, Mr. Hecht no longer owns SCUPS.

Here's two reasonable questions for you:
    1. Who do you say owns NCU?
    2. Where do you say NCU is located?

    Re: Re: WASC?

I know two professors from a top ranked engineering school who visited NCU in Prescott to review them as part of an interuniversity degree program. They talked to the staff, andsaw how operations were handled. That university now has several professors doing the PhD at NCU.

As John D. Rockefeller said, own nothing, control everything. You are asking the wrong question. Why don\'t you research the issue and get back to us?
