There are many crops that currently don't have a mechanized way of being picked. Strawberries, oranges, figs....

I've read that Europe is ahead of the US in farm mechanization for the simple reason that they haven't the migrant farm workers that we do.

Strawberries, oranges and figs can be grown in Mexico. If the cost of the US grown produce goes up then they will be grown in Mexico. God help the workers (Indios) then.

A soft head too often accompanies a soft heart. Or, if you prefer, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

If you are a true humanitarian and not just pushing some political agenda then you must think through the consequences of your actions.

That is for sure. And, since this is a board for opinions, mine is that Mr. French has an ax to grind with Janko, and possibly others, on this board.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Quite a Tirade!

Why is that Carl? Because some of us disagree with Janko, The Mad priest? Somebody has an ax to grind with Janko, his consitent rants and ravings have worn thin, thats all!

Jimmy points out the venerable Mr. janko is accountable to nobody, is that a good thing? I will leave you to draw your own conclusions.

    Take care Carl.

I like most of your opinions,

I simply disagree with your slant on this one!

    Take care,

    Abner

I assume that the 'sensei' title has something to do with martial arts. And I hope that you know that martial arts are part of a much larger tradition and that they have more to do with centering and self-control than with thrashing about.

I think that arguments on internet boards can be likened to combat of a sort, and the same kind of principles apply. Just as they apply in all of life.

So I think that your attempts to divert this thread about Terri Schaivo's sad death to your own political agenda, and your subsequent heated attacks on those who disagree with you, isn't behavior in keeping with your discipline, especially from one who presumes to teach.

Sensei's are (or should be) the antithesis of trolls.

You gotta be kidding me. We just don´t have the luck to have Mexican workers. That´s why many of us are learning (and practicing) the shashada.

I couldn't agree more but remember, more often than not, the character of the movement reflects the ethos of the leader.

The power of being the head of a successful movement can sometimes overwhelm even the most sincere person. The movement, the individuals on the font lines, can still maintain the original integrity.

The diety Google informs that "shahada" involves the conversion to Islam.

The US east coast gets migrant workers from the West Indian nations. And something goes on in Louisiana but no one has had the courage to discover what.

    Mr. Dayson:

What is your point! I never attacked the other side of my argument! I thougt men of the clergy were supposed to represent both sides of life, I just don't see that. I have never attempted to divert any argument, how dare you cast aspersions upon Senseis? I work, study, then try to teach at risk youths about the Martial way!, Do not speak about that which you do not know kind sir

    Good evenig Sir !

Thank you, Jimmy. One of the things I like about this list is that, for the most part, you can have an intelligent exchange of veiwpoints without getting nasty. It's why I post here.

As somebody who used to live in Louisiana, all I can say is 'Ain't that the truth!'

    Re: Quite a Tirade!

    My dear young Master Abner:

One hesitates to give your silliness a reiteration in bold type, but I shouldn't want to be accused by you of quoting selectively.

It would have been easier to tell you to shut up, and easier for you to do it. I did not. I told you to grow up or shut up. Much more difficult.

Rage? Not in the least. Your defamation of Dr Clifton reflects your emotions, not mine.

Ridiculing Mr Chavez? No, little Abner, I was ridiculing your use of Mr Chavez as a club with which to beat Dr Clifton. My opinion of Mr Chavez is both irrelevant to this discussion and unknown to you (as is my opinion of David Lloyd George or Sir Arthur Sullivan, while we're at it). I certainly did NOT say that you felt Mrs Schiavo's death was an occasion for joy. You lie and say that I did in order to display your indignation at so offensive an attribution. Unfortunately, I made no such attribution, nor did I insinuate it, nor, despite your churlishness, do I care to believe such a thing of you.

The contents of your private messages are absolutely no concern of mine, nor of anyone else, nor should they be.

You may of course express any opinions you like, provided they are within the TOS--and that is not mine to determine in any way. But when you defame a person's professional integrity (Dr Clifton's) because he happens to disagree with your political views, you, young man, are behaving badly, and Dr Clifton is deserving of a defence. If denouncing your bullying constitutes bullying in your mind, well, that transaction is taking place in a narrow defile into which I do not care to enter, nor can enter.

So, since I have been constrained to repeat some of your hoolerei, let me repeat the central point I cared to make, apologizing for the use of all capitals--it is done for ease of reading and comprehension by anyone with limited ability to read and comprehend.

I HAVE EVERY CONFIDENCE IN THE AUTHENTICITY OF DR JIMMY CLIFTON'S CLERGY CREDENTIALS AND IN THE ACCURACY OF THE DEGREE CLAIMS HE MAKES IN HIS SIG LINE IN THIS YEAR OF GRACE 2005.

    With avuncular regard,

    Janko Carpathicus

    True, and beautifully stated!

Doubly true, beautifully stated, and erudite, too!

Cesar Chavez was a great leader whose personal foibles are all too reminiscent of all of us, mere mortals. He inspired a great revolution and established an even greater tradition - that great leaders also are sincere followers, too, of the people.

Many in he know have often stated that the essence of leadership lies in the process of influencing. Cesar Chavez influences are diverse; his proletrarian actions were almost always designed to change other people's attitudes, beliefs, values or behavior.

Deb's two astute and concise observations above bring home to me the salient point - that without acceptable influence one cannot exercise leadership. The great Cesar realised this, as most great leader-followers are wont to do.

Let's honor and not unnecessarily not chastise the movement for the influencer's failings. He led many as far as and to the extent that his humanity would allow him to be a follower.

Back to the Schiavo case, though ......

In the great tragedy that will forever define Terri Schiavo's life and death, I have seen evidences of great leadership as well as masterful manipulations on both sides of the life-support debate.

Let it be known that sometimes though, followers have a tendency to dislodge and dishonor that which a symbol (Schiavo) represents and may in fact be eternally germaine and true for all of us.

May we continue to not only pray for, but work for, peace, even as we meditate or pray for TS's soul to rest in eternal peace.

    Thanks.

Just so. My apologies to both of you for contributing to the diversion of this thread. A defamation required a response, but I regret the disruption of this thread. And Jake, your post is eloquent as always. Thank you.
