    Hello everyone!

Long time! Hope all of you are well.

This is the most recent news about South Africa’s Council of Higher Education (CHE) review of UNISA’s doctoral programs. Mention of the review started in April 2020. I don’t think the CHE is done yet.

Unisa set to embark on national doctoral review process
The Council on Higher Education (CHE) review of Unisa doctoral qualifications is underway

Anyone have more information on this? This morning I emailed CHE and asked them where they are in the in the review process.

Coincidentally, but perhaps unrelated, there is scuffle going on when one SA professor accused UNISA of being a degree-mill:

'Network of corrupt officials' as Unisa turns into 'qualifications factory' (timeslive.co.za)
To call Unisa a degree mill is plain wrong. Here are the facts (timeslive.co.za)
Unisa sets the record straight on its qualifications and research capacity (polity.org.za)

This article may also be unrelated. Article states there is corruption in the UNISA administration:
Council ‘has dismally failed UNISA’, states damning report (universityworldnews.com)

Can anybody shed light on this? Personally, I think that with the pandemic, UNISA’s distance learning programs are in more demand now, perhaps stretching UNISA's resources, but I don't accept accusations of it being a degree mill.

I searched the general threads but couldn’t find a discussion on this. Could be old hat here - I don't know.

    Best -

I appreciate you sharing! I have no light to shed, but I'm glad someone is keeping an eye on the regional news for these sorts of things.
