    Hi Sonata,

The following is taken from the "ABOUT US" page of their web site:

"Rutherford University (RUTHERFORD.EDU) is licensed by the State of Wyoming under Wyo. Stat. 21-2-401 through 21-2-407 and neither The Department of Education nor the Wyoming State Board of Education has accredited or endorsed any course of study being offered by Rutherford University."

It may or may not be a mill, but it certainly isn't regionally or nationally accredited.

    Hope that helps,
    Beholdweb

If it has not been accredited why is it still operating?

They are testing the waters now that there are no moderators. Don´t pay attention, beholdweb.

There are many very legitimate private schools that are not accredited (at least not regionally or nationally). The fact that a school is not accredited does not NECESSARILY mean that it ought to be shut down.

However, this particular school smells like a mill:

    - Unaccredited.
    - No campus (multiple other businesses seem to operate from the same address...looks like some kind of Industrial Park).
    - Degrees earned entirely based on "life experience".
    - You can pick your desired degree from a list or create your own degree title (as long as you have "experience" in the subject).
    - Site is tacky.
    - Stock photos instead of real students.

If it walks like a duck!

Rutherford is apparently run by the same people that ran Stratford International University.

Google has this now-defunct webpage cached:

We are pleased to launch the Rutherford University website. We are building on our strengths and reputation and are continually striving to build a clear vision and solid programs for our students across the world. We welcome your feedback.

A Google search for "rutherford university" site:.edu produced several hundred hits. But apart from Rutherford's own site and that single Stratford hit, the rest of the hits seemed to be referring to people who happened to be named 'Rutherford' at universities all around the world.

So it looks like Rutherford University doesn't receive any recognition by other universities.

If it is unaccredited why isn't there a sign to say that signing up with this institution may not provide you with the real credentials that you are looking for?

Why isn't this thread over in Accredited/State-Approved/Unaccredited, where it belongs?

The "signs" are all there. It is the consumer who must always look after their own best interests.

It's a big bad nasty mean world out there Sonata and, whilst there are many good people, there are also lots of people who simply want to make money...and they will do and say anything to separate you from you hard earned cash.

If I create a nice looking web site and offer to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge for $500 and you write me a check and mail it to me, who is to blame when the deal turns bad and I disappear with your $500?

    Buyer Beware!

Oh yes, it looks like another degree mill that sells worthless pieces of paper... probably not much different than the degree mill Sonata University and its bogus degrees and worthless pieces of paper that it sells.
