    Hello,

Does anyone know of any "legit" distance Russian programs? The accreditation doesn't matter to me. I was looking to see if any Russian universities offered a distance option and didn't find any. Within the USA I found one community college in Texas, but the cost is outrageous.

Also, any in person places you recommend to study Russian in Ukraine, Russia, or any of the Stans?

Educacentre in St Petersburg teaches Russian. I thought they had an online program, but no...

Here are 11 places to learn Russian by distance. https://www.fluentu.com/blog/russian/learn-russian-free/

They're not all as free as this thing says. Babbel, for instance, starts you with free lessons and after a very few, you have to start paying. Still super-cheap though, and very good teaching for beginners. I took their freebie in Polish, once.

Thank you. So, as far as you know there's no actual "academic" program in Russia or any of the ex Soviet countries that's distanced based?

I did a cursory look at the Russian universities once upon a time. At that time there were very few (that I found). There was no clear evidence to indicate they would accept non-Russian applicants and it seemed that the language of instruction was consistently Russian. At that point I stopped paying attention. It's possible that some of that has changed but I wouldn't bet on it.

Thank you for your reply. It does seem like there’s nothing out there. In the states I can only find the Brookhaven Community College online program, but it’s almost 1k for 4 credits through out of state tuition, and the program itself is based on what it seems to be fill in the blank work on a Pearson site. I find that useless unless there are Zoom conferences involved like lets say a Harvard Extension course, but I doubt it since it’s a community college after all.

I’m really trying to stay away from classes online that do not use team based learning methodology or Zoom conferences. I wish Harvard Extension had modern language courses online. I would gladly pony up the money. Now I think my only option is to take a trip for immersion.

Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok has been offering programs in English for years: https://www.dvfu.ru/en/

Oh, you're looking to study Russian, not study through a university in Russia. My bad.

I’m in Asia right now, so this is a good option for immersion. Thank you.
