I have a topic that I want to pursue at the DCom level. I am not sure if it will contribute any new knowledge too the accounting field, but it will surely developed my expertise in this area. I will be happy if there is anyone on this board who will love to review my research proposal and share his/her wisdom with me. To give you a better understanding of what I am attempting to do. Here are few guidelines I have been following:
    • My topic is regarding IFRS coming to Canada; however, I am open to changing my topic to another aspect of IFRS.
    • My foremost goals is to develop my practical expertise in IFRS
    • To a lesser extent, the paper could be use by other accounting practitioners as a guide to implementation and post implementation evaluation.
    • I am planning to apply to a South African university in a DCom program, so it must be up to its standards to meet the admission criteria.

    Thanks

    Hi Degree-infoers
I am seeking your feedback in a different way. I hope I did not gave the impression I was looking for a free ride. Like many people on this board I’ll like to do the PHD thing, but finding a topic that I can contributes new knowledge is a bit daunting.
I have an interest in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). By the end of 2006, over one hundred countries would have implemented IFRS as they national accounting standard and others countries have indicated their intension to implement fully or in major parts the IFRS.
The European Union has adopted IFRS since 2005; South Africa in 2006; India has adopted in 2007; the UK has just came aboard with full adoption for 2009. Japan and Canada will have full adapted by 2011. The US is the major holdout but the SEC has dropped its bid to have for foreign firms to reconcile their Financial Statements from IFRS to US GAAP.
Somewhere in this is a topic where I can spend two or three years and do some serious research. I had a topic on Canada’s readiness on IFRS implementation, with a comparative analysis of a couple selected countries and using their experiences as labs to understand the challenges Canadian companies my face in their I FRS’s implementation. I dropped this topic because it boring and it may not add much that you cannot read in a good industry magazine. So I am looking for a topic, and I am using this forum. Please give me your feedback.

    Thanks
