I applied to FSHU's Masters program in Liberal Studies. I was rejected because my undergrad degree GPA (from the 1980's) was a 2.2 not a 3.0.

I was quite the goof off back then, and not a very good student. But within the last 2 years, I've completed the MS Ed program at Cal State Hayward in Online Teaching and Learning. I finished with a GPA of 3.9.

With a 3.9 GPA in a regionally accredited Graduate Program, FSHU wouldn't admit me! What the $#@% gives!??!!?!?!?!?

  2. You should speak with an admission's officer. If you really want to go there, you can always petition. As an 18-year-old, my GPA wasn't that great, yet when I finally go serious, I earned a 4.0 in all of my upper division classes. Explain your situation to the college.

I know that you're asking a rhetorical question as no one on the forum could really answer your question. With that in mind I'll offer this possible answer:
Assuming that there are not an infinite number of slots available for grad students in the program you referenced, some criteria must be employed to distinguish applicants. It's conceivable to me that someone who has previously earned an Masters degree (in any discipline) would actually be at a disadvantage. (My idea is, "Why should we help you earn a second Masters when that means NOT allowing someone else to earn their first Masters?) In a world of scarce resources, hard decisions are sometimes required.
    Sorry,
    Jack

    Getting into FHSU

Ask them if you can go in as a conditional student. Usually you take two classes and if you do well, you are in. I can't believe with what you told us they would deny you based on your lousy undergrad. Heck, I had a 2.39 average as an undergrad and now have THREE graduate degrees. GO FOR IT and good luck.

You didn't happen to misspell the name of the institution on your application, did you?
