Does anyone know of a Christian college that has regional or national accreditation that will allow you to do a doctorate in theology or bible studies, or ministry, etc., without having a master's degree in a similar discipline? I have a master's degree in organizational leadership and don't want to do another master's degree, etc.:yell:

Someone inevitably brings up Liberty in these situations and so here's the stated academic admission requirements for their PhD in Theology program

    6. Official transcript(s) including one of the following Divinity degrees:
    Master of Divinity
Master of Theology with a thesis
Master of Arts with a thesis

A doctoral degree is a huge undertaking, even when one has prior education in the field. To go into a doctoral program "cold" would be almost suicidal (in a metaphorical sense), which is why every school requires a M.Div. or related graduate degree for admission.

Out of curiosity, what is your desire/motivation for a doctoral degree in a religious field?

    Why a Christian biblical doctorate

I'd love to do a biblically related doctorate because I am a huge fan of God and the bible. That sums that up I think.

A closely related discipline is Religious Studies, an area that is not necessarily focused on Christianity or the Bible. It's possible that admissions requirements for such a degree could be less stringent.

There are PhD programs in Christian Leadership out there that certainly have theological and biblical components. However, you won't find a legit PhD program in Bible or theology that would accept you without appropriate background in the relevant subject area. Many also require a working knowledge of the biblical languages.

If being a fan of God and the Bible is your motivation for further study, there are actually a lot of other programs out their besides the PhD that you might find beneficial.

I have a friend who did a D.Min. from Bethel in St. Paul without even having a masters. Now his was a special situation where he had a lot of other credit hours and experience beyond the bachelor's, particularly in admin at Christian schools, which is the field he went back into after the D.Min. He knew the right people and was able to get this arranged, that's about all I know.
