I need a refresher/brush-up on ACSI(Association of Christian Schools International) for my own personal benefit. Judging from their web site, they don't seem concerned with getting USDE and CHEA recognition. If I remember correctly, ACSI is not recognized by USDE and CHEA. What's the general opinion of ACSI?

ACSI is a highly credible accreditor that exists for the sole purpose of accreditting Christian primary and secondary schools. It is the standard provider of accreditation for Christian schools throughout the US. They require high standards of their member institutions.

ACSI does not provide accreditation for institutions above the secondary (high school) level. They do, however, approve higher education institutions to provide continuing education credit for the teachers of ACSI accreditted schools. From what I gather, the standards for institutions to become ACSI-approved aren't terribly stringent.

A word of warning: some less than ethical Bible schools try to represent their ACSI approval as more than it is. If worded vaguely enough, ACSI approval can be made to appear as something closely akin to accreditation.

Well put. Yes, some schools do use the ACSI seal on their advertisements as if to represent their mebership like accreditation. If I remember the stats, only a small number of ACSI schools are actually accredited by ACSI the others are just members.

ACSI offers various credentials/certifications for Christian school teachers. They appear to be a worthwhile organization and have addressed important issues such as teacher pay which is very low in Christian schools (eg 19,000 a year is well paid) and put out a good education magazine.

By the way, where are you in your education plans?

At present, I'm clipping away on my MTh dissertation with Spurgeon's College. I hope to wrap it up by March/April. Then, assuming I submit my dissertation in time for the University of Wales' external examiners visit in June, at which time my degree would be officially conferred, I will look to jump into a doctoral program as quickly as possible thereafter.

At present, I'm shopping my doctoral research topic around to see which South African institutions would be a good fit. I've narrowed the field to two or three very strong possibilities, and a couple of maybe's. Although I haven't entirely ruled out Trinity College, Bristol in the UK, I'm about 95% certain I'll be undertaking doctoral studies through a South African institution.

Thanks for asking. I hope your work with Zululand is going well.

I need to stay motivated to do the research. I see why this is the area people tend to get bogged down in. I am going to have to try and put some time in every day in order to progress.

    Good luck to you!

    Hey, North,

Could you provide me an update about your overall impressions of UZULU, Dr. Song, and SATS? What have been your experiences? What's really impressed you? Anything that's been disappointing or problematic?

I ask because I am continuing to contemplate future doctoral work with UZULU. I really would like an insider's perspective.

    Thanks.

My experience has been very positive so far. SATS/UNIZUL have got to be two of the most *student friendly* institutions I have encountered. Dr. Song is prompt in replying to correspondence and very cordial. He has made constructive recommendations regarding the research proposal. I have had no disappointments so far. I get regular e-mails from SATS regarding their newsletter and just received a copy of the first edition of the UNIZUL one. So far I have found the staff/faculty to be prompt, courteous, and professional. This is especially impressive based on how busy Professor Song must be.
